Due to a major technical defect, more than 15,000 Hyundai Venue vehicles have been recalled.

The seat belt pre-tensioner inflator, a portion that automatically tightens seat belts after an accident, has a flaw in the 2020 to 2022 model of the automobile, according to a statement from the federal government’s Department of Transport.

The seat belt pre-tensioner inflator “may fracture when deployed in the case of an accident due to a manufacturing problem,” the agency said.

“Metal pieces may be hurled at great speed towards the vehicle passengers and might cause significant damage” if the seat belt pre-tensioner inflator breaks.

Owners of the vehicle have been instructed to get in touch with Hyundai to arrange for a free inspection and repair of the component.

The Customer Experience Team at Hyundai may be reached at 1800 186 306.
