Minibus overturns and kills six-year-old boy while injuring several other children in horror crash near Reading on the M4

What began as a regular Sunday afternoon turned into a devastating nightmare for several families after a serious crash on the M4 in Berkshire left one young boy dead and another child fighting for their life.

A day that should have been filled with laughter and normality quickly spiraled into heartbreak and emergency sirens.

One Child Dead, Another Critical After Minibus Overturns

The horrific incident took place around 2:45pm on Sunday when a Ford Transit minibus overturned while exiting the M4 at Junction 10, near the A329M just outside Reading.

The crash prompted authorities to close down the motorway in both directions, causing major disruption while emergency crews rushed to the scene.

Tragically, a six-year-old boy died at the scene. His family has been informed and is now receiving support from specially trained officers as they process the devastating news.

Five Children Seriously Injured, One in Critical Care

Police have confirmed that five other children who were travelling in the minibus suffered serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment in hospital. One child’s condition has been described as critical.

Other passengers in the vehicle sustained minor injuries and, thankfully, have since been discharged from hospital.

Major Emergency Response Deployed

The emergency response was extensive.

South Central Ambulance Service sent out six ambulances and five critical care units.

In addition, Thames Valley Air Ambulance dispatched both a helicopter and a critical care vehicle to assist.

The Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service was also called in to help at the scene.

Police Launch Full Investigation Into the Crash

With so many young lives impacted, Thames Valley Police have launched a full investigation to determine what caused the vehicle to overturn.

As of now, no arrests have been made.

Detective Sergeant Lyndsey Blackaby of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit offered her condolences to the family of the young boy who died, stating:

Firstly, I want to offer my deepest condolences to the family of the child who sadly died in this collision.”

She added that the investigation is ongoing and appealed to anyone who might have seen the crash or captured it on dash-cam to come forward.
