What was supposed to be a quiet Sunday in New York took a dramatic turn when Mingus Lucien Reedus, the 25-year-old son of Norman Reedus and Helena Christensen, made a deeply unsettling remark while facing reporters.
As he left custody following his arrest, he was overheard saying: “You want to watch me kill myself?” — words that immediately raised concern about his state of mind.
This shocking statement came just a day after he was arrested for allegedly assaulting a 33-year-old woman.
Details of the Assault Allegations
According to police and court reports, Mingus is accused of a violent altercation in which he allegedly struck a woman in the leg, choked her, and slammed her to the ground.
TMZ later reported that the woman involved is now seeking a court-ordered protection order against him.
In her police statement, she claimed that Mingus used both hands to squeeze her neck with force, punched her right leg with a closed fist, and then threw her down, leaving her with bruising, redness, and significant pain.
The 911 Call and Arrest
Strangely, it was Mingus himself who made the initial 911 call early Saturday morning.
Around 8:40 a.m., he told police that a woman inside a West 16th Street apartment was taking pills and threatening suicide.
When officers arrived, however, the woman accused him of assault.
Police arrested Mingus on the spot, while the woman was transported to Bellevue Hospital.
Thankfully, she was later reported to be in stable condition.
Smiling for the Cameras
Photos taken by the press showed the model being escorted by police into a cruiser.
Hours later, he emerged from the precinct with a grin on his face before being placed in another police vehicle.
When questioned by reporters about why he called the police, Mingus flatly denied it, responding: “I didn’t.”
And when asked to explain what really happened, he simply smiled, laughed, and said: “No.”
At one point, he described the entire situation as “a misunderstanding.”
A woman identifying herself as his girlfriend echoed the same sentiment, though it remains unclear whether she was also the woman involved in the alleged assault.
Not His First Run-In With the Law
This isn’t the first time Mingus has faced legal trouble.
Back in 2021, during the San Gennaro Festival in Little Italy, he allegedly punched a woman in the face.
The case was resolved in March 2022 with a plea deal that required him to complete five private counseling sessions.
His charge was eventually downgraded from misdemeanor assault to disorderly conduct — a violation in New York City.
A Family in the Spotlight
Mingus, who has pursued a modeling career like his mother Helena Christensen, has appeared in major fashion campaigns, including a Vogue Hommes Paris cover in 2021.
He is the only child of Helena and The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus, who split in 2003.
Norman has since moved on with actress Diane Kruger, with whom he shares a young daughter.
What Comes Next?
For now, Mingus faces serious legal and personal challenges as this case develops.
Between the disturbing threats, his troubling arrest history, and the court protection order sought by the alleged victim, all eyes are on what his next move — and the court’s decision — will be.
