Millie Mackintosh opens up about mental health struggles on Instagram after reconnecting with ex-husband Professor Green in the UK

Reality star Millie Mackintosh has shared an emotional glimpse into her life, posting a tearful selfie on Instagram as she candidly reflected on her mental health journey.

The heartfelt post comes in the wake of her ex-husband Professor Green revealing that the pair have recently reconnected, despite their acrimonious split nearly a decade ago.

Revisiting the Past After Divorce

Millie and Stephen Manderson, better known as Professor Green, were married in 2013 but divorced just three years later in 2016.

In a recent appearance on Jamie Laing’s Great Company podcast, the rapper admitted that their marriage was influenced by pressure and “trauma bonding,” complicated by years of living with undiagnosed ADHD.

Following these revelations, Millie shared a series of photos and videos with her followers, describing the collection as a way of “re-introducing herself.”

The post included a throwback from her 2018 wedding to husband Hugo Taylor and snapshots of their daughters, Siena, five, and Aurelia, three.

A Heartfelt Social Media Reintroduction

Millie began her Instagram post with a short video of herself preparing lunch, captioned: “Hi, I’m Millie, let me reintroduce myself.”

She then shared images from her past, including her Made In Chelsea days, her fitness and lifestyle journey, and her path to sobriety.

A tearful selfie accompanied her reflections on anxiety, ADHD, and depression, with the caption: “I speak openly about my experiences because I know how much it helps to hear you’re not alone.”

She closed the post with a beaming selfie, thanking her followers for their continued support: “And if you’ve been here for a while, thanks for being here whether you’ve followed me for years or only just found my page.

I’m so grateful to have you along for the ride.”

Professor Green Reflects on Their Marriage

On Jamie Laing’s podcast, Professor Green opened up about the pressures surrounding their wedding and admitted he nearly called off their lavish Somerset nuptials due to cold feet.

He described their connection as a “trauma bond” linked to undiagnosed ADHD, reflecting that both he and Millie struggled with their own challenges.

He said: “If there wasn’t that pressure, we may have never got married.

I made my own decision. We made our decision, and we didn’t get married for the wrong reasons.

We loved each other. It was probably an element of trauma bonding.”

Despite the difficulties, he emphasized that there is no resentment, calling Millie “gorgeous” and acknowledging they simply weren’t right for each other at the time.

Millie’s Own Reflections on a Difficult Time

Millie has previously spoken about the anxiety she felt leading up to her 2013 wedding at Babington House in Somerset.

She admitted she knew the relationship “wasn’t right” but feared the shame of calling it off.

Speaking on Brogan Garrit-Smith’s Getting There podcast, she reflected: “I think we both thought we could fix each other, but we couldn’t.

Ultimately, we both had our own struggles, and it magnified everything. It was actually quite toxic.”

She finalized her divorce from Professor Green in May 2016, the same week she went public with Hugo Taylor, her former Made In Chelsea co-star.

The couple got engaged in Mykonos in 2017 and married in Sussex in 2018, later welcoming daughters Siena and Aurelia.

Reconnecting and Understanding ADHD

Professor Green explained that he and Millie have recently reconnected to reflect on their experiences and support each other, particularly around their undiagnosed ADHD.

“There was undiagnosed neurodivergence between both of us,” he said. “It makes sense now.”

He also shared insights from his own ADHD and autism diagnoses, explaining how his neurodivergent traits were present from childhood but misunderstood.

“I didn’t have those words or understanding then. I was thought of as bright, so people focused on that,” he said, reflecting on how his upbringing, including being raised by his grandmother, shaped his anxiety.

Looking Ahead With Openness and Support

Both Millie and Professor Green seem committed to approaching their reconnection with honesty and understanding, using their experiences to shed light on mental health and neurodivergence.

Millie’s Instagram post stands as a heartfelt message to her followers that it’s okay to share struggles and seek support, while Professor Green’s candid reflections highlight the importance of understanding ADHD and personal growth.
