Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has thrown his weight behind Declan Rice as a potential Ballon d’Or winner, praising the midfielder’s “immense” performances since the start of the season.
Rice has been in sensational form, and Arteta is clearly convinced the 26-year-old could be in the running for football’s most prestigious individual award.
Midweek Masterclass Against Bayern
Rice’s latest standout display came in Arsenal’s Champions League clash with Bayern Munich, where he earned man-of-the-match honors.
That performance followed a series of impressive outings for both club and country, with Rice consistently influencing games from midfield and now further up the pitch under Arteta’s tactical adjustments.
Numbers That Speak for Themselves
This season, Rice has already scored twice and provided six assists across all competitions.
His contributions have been pivotal in helping Arsenal maintain top spot in the Premier League while progressing strongly in the Champions League.
Arteta didn’t hold back in his praise when asked if Rice could win the Ballon d’Or ahead of the north London derby against Chelsea.
“I hope so,” Arteta said. “That would mean that we have won a lot.
Normally it goes very much related to trophies.
Again, I think he was immense the other day. I think he’s been immense since the start of the season.
He’s an incredible and crucial player for us.”
Injury Updates Keep Fans Guessing
Arteta also provided updates on Arsenal’s injury situation.
Scans on Viktor Gyokeres and Kai Havertz weren’t fully conclusive this week, but the Spaniard said both are inching closer to a return.
Gyokeres has missed action since the 2-0 victory over Burnley earlier this month, while Havertz has yet to feature since the season opener.
Leandro Trossard picked up a knock against Bayern, but Arteta was optimistic.
“It doesn’t look like much,” he said. “He could be ready for Sunday.”
Looking Ahead to Chelsea
As Arsenal prepare to face Chelsea this Sunday, the team will be eager to maintain their momentum in the Premier League.
With Rice in sensational form and key players returning from injury, Arteta’s squad looks well-equipped to keep pushing at the top of the table.
