Mikaela Shiffrin Becomes the First Skier in History to Reach 100 World Cup Wins with a Slalom Victory in Sestriere

Mikaela Shiffrin made history this weekend in the world of alpine skiing.

On Sunday, she became the first skier, male or female, to hit an incredible milestone: 100 World Cup wins.

Her achievement came during the slalom race in Sestriere, Italy, where she showed once again why she’s considered one of the greatest in the sport.

A Historic Win

At 29 years old, Shiffrin secured her 63rd World Cup slalom victory, finishing 0.61 seconds ahead of Croatia’s Zrinka Ljutic.

Another American, Paula Moltzan, claimed third place, just 0.38 seconds behind her teammate.

It was a remarkable race, and Shiffrin’s second run, in particular, was a standout.

The Journey to 100 Wins

Mikaela’s journey to this 100-win milestone has been nothing short of extraordinary.

She had already become the record-holder for the most World Cup victories back in 2023, surpassing Sweden’s Ingemar Stenmark, who held the previous record of 86 wins.

After leading by just 0.09 seconds after the first run, Shiffrin put on a spectacular second run.

Despite a tough competition, including a fall from world champion Camille Rast at the end of her first run, Shiffrin held her composure.

She was visibly emotional when she crossed the finish line, falling to her knees and taking a moment to process what she had just achieved.

“I’m so grateful for everyone—my teammates, competitors, coaches, and the fans.

So much went right for me today, but also wrong for others.

Camille was so fast, and in the end, I did something right too,” she shared, holding back tears.

Overcoming Obstacles

This win was especially sweet for Shiffrin, who had been stuck at 99 wins since November 2023 after a victory at the slalom in Gurgl, Austria.

She then faced a setback with a serious abdominal injury at Killington, which kept her out of competition for two months.

But with perseverance and support from her team, Shiffrin was able to bounce back stronger than ever.
