Michael van Gerwen’s Post-Match Interview Goes Awry
Sky Sports presenter Abigail Davies found herself in an awkward situation after Michael van Gerwen let slip a swear word during a post-match interview following his dominant victory over Chris Dobey in the World Darts Championship.
Van Gerwen Dominates Dobey
The three-time world champion, Van Gerwen, made quick work of Dobey, winning the semi-final 6-1 and securing his place in the final at Alexandra Palace.
His performance was a showcase of sheer dominance, and with this victory, he advanced to his seventh World Darts Championship final.
An Unexpected Apology
After the match, Van Gerwen was interviewed by Davies, and when asked how a win in the upcoming final would compare to his previous successes, he bluntly responded, “I’ve won f*** all yet.”
This unexpected outburst caught everyone off guard, especially when Davies quickly apologized, saying, “We are going to have to apologise for the language there,” while Van Gerwen casually shrugged it off.
A Confident but Humble Champion
Despite his harsh language, Van Gerwen showed a confident yet humble demeanor.
He acknowledged that although reaching the final was a great achievement, there was still a long way to go.
He explained, “I’m in the final, I’ve won f*** all yet. I need to make sure I do it in the final.”
Van Gerwen also highlighted the importance of staying focused, saying, “I am here with a mission, with a target, you are always going to have ups and downs.
Today, I showed maturity; even when I wasn’t at my best, I produced some good stuff at the right moments, and that gives me confidence.”
The Final Awaits
Looking ahead, Van Gerwen expressed his determination to remain grounded.
“To win in the semi-final means a lot to me, but what do I always say? We are not even close yet, we are still so far away.
Tomorrow is another day. The title is still far away, that’s what I have to tell myself.
I don’t want to make mistakes.
I want to keep battling.”
As he prepares for the final, Van Gerwen will face either Luke Littler or Stephen Bunting, who are set to meet in the other semi-final on Thursday night.
Van Gerwen’s Impressive Performance
Throughout the match, Van Gerwen was in excellent form, averaging just under 100, hitting eight 180s, and finishing with three ton-plus checkouts, including a stunning 158.
Despite the cheeky slip-up during the interview, it’s clear that Van Gerwen remains laser-focused on securing his fourth World Darts Championship title.
