Four human skulls were discovered in a shipment destined for the United States at a Mexican airport on Friday, according to local authorities.
According to a National Guard statement, the skulls were discovered wrapped in aluminum foil inside a cardboard box at Queretaro Intercontinental Airport in central Mexico.
The item was shipped from one of the most violent regions of the country, the western coastal state of Michoacan, to an address in Manning, South Carolina, according to the note.
The National Guard provided no additional information regarding the age, name, or possible motivation for shipping the human remains.
It was stated that a specific permit from a competent health authority was not sought for the transportation of human remains.
