The world of British comedy was shaken recently after Little Britain star Matt Lucas found himself targeted by disturbing behavior.
Police launched an investigation following complaints from Lucas, 51, who reported being stalked and blackmailed by a male artist living in London.
The accused, 36-year-old German-born Alijoscha Quooss, is now facing serious legal action after the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) authorized charges against him.
Charges Filed and Bail Ignored
According to the Metropolitan Police, Quooss has been charged with stalking and blackmail.
He was arrested shortly after the allegations were made public on June 26, but he failed to attend his scheduled bail hearing.
Authorities believe he has since left the United Kingdom, and inquiries are ongoing.
A police spokesperson confirmed: “Charges have been authorized by the Crown Prosecution Service against Alijoscha Quooss, 36, of Cornwall Avenue, E2, for stalking and blackmail.
Enquiries are continuing as he has not answered bail and is understood to have left the country.”
Legal Battle Before Arrest
Interestingly, this legal confrontation came just weeks after Lucas attempted to secure a gag order against Quooss in an emergency High Court hearing.
Lucas, represented by a King’s Counsel, was seeking an interim injunction to stop Quooss from contacting him.
Quooss, representing himself, successfully defended against the injunction, with the judge ultimately dismissing Lucas’ application.
Despite that court outcome, Quooss has been prohibited from contacting Lucas or approaching his address as part of his bail conditions, underscoring the seriousness of the accusations.
What Comes Next?
The case remains active, with the police continuing their investigation while Quooss is reportedly abroad.
If convicted, the charges of stalking and blackmail carry significant penalties under UK law.
Meanwhile, Lucas’ legal team is likely monitoring developments closely as they prepare for the next steps in the process.
