What started as an ordinary early morning drive turned into a devastating scene on one of Britain’s busiest motorways.
Police are now urgently searching for two women and two men who fled the wreckage of a crash that left a young man dead and another seriously injured.
27-Year-Old VW Driver Dies After M40 Collision
A 27-year-old man from High Wycombe lost his life following a violent collision in the early hours of the morning on the M40, near junction 2 at Beaconsfield.
The crash happened around 1:15am and involved two vehicles — a black Volkswagen Golf and a blue Mercedes AMG C250 — both of which were heading northbound at the time.
The Golf’s driver sustained fatal injuries and tragically died shortly after the crash.
His passenger, also in his twenties, is currently being treated in hospital for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Mercedes Occupants Flee as Investigation Unfolds
In a shocking turn, four people who were in the Mercedes — two men and two women — reportedly took off on foot immediately after the accident.
They have not yet been identified or located.
According to Thames Valley Police, early witness accounts suggest that the Mercedes was being driven erratically just before the collision occurred at the entrance to the motorway services.
One Arrest Made, But Police Still on the Hunt
A 26-year-old man from Beaconsfield has been arrested in connection with the incident.
He’s facing suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and possession of a knife or pointed object in a public place.
He remains in custody while investigations continue.
Detective Sergeant Edward Crofts, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, shared his condolences, saying, “Tragically, as a result of this collision, a man has died of his injuries.
His family has been informed and is receiving support from specially trained officers.”
Witnesses Urged to Come Forward
Authorities are now making an urgent appeal for help from the public.
“We’re working hard to track down the four individuals who left the scene,” DS Crofts added.
“We need anyone who was driving on the M40 around 1am near junction 2 to please contact us if you saw either vehicle, particularly if you noticed any unusual or reckless driving.”
Drivers with dash-cams are being asked to check their footage and submit anything that might help officers piece together what happened.
