Meghan Markle partners with Netflix-linked tea company in California to sell As Ever herbal blends at triple the price from her Montecito lifestyle brand

Meghan Markle’s latest venture into lifestyle branding is stirring conversation — and not just because of the tea.

The Duchess of Sussex recently launched a collection of herbal teas through her “As Ever” brand, but curious observers have noticed something intriguing: the teas seem to be closely tied to The Republic of Tea, a California-based company that also happens to have connections with Netflix.

An Unexpected Tea Trail

MailOnline found that As Ever’s herbal teas — including hibiscus, lemon ginger, and peppermint blends — are likely being sourced from The Republic of Tea.

This company, based in Larkspur, California, and with production in Nashville, Illinois, is already known for creating branded teas for shows like Netflix’s Bridgerton and ITV’s Downton Abbey.

The metadata on As Ever’s website even previously listed The Republic of Tea as the brand behind the teas, though this changed after press inquiries.

A Price Tag That Raises Eyebrows

Here’s where things get interesting. The Republic of Tea sells its hibiscus tea for roughly 28 cents per cup.

However, Meghan’s As Ever version is being sold for $1 per cup — nearly three times as much.

While there are subtle differences, like the shape of the tea bags (triangular with strings vs. round and stringless), it’s unclear whether As Ever is simply repackaging existing products or commissioning exclusive blends.

A Nod to Nigeria and A Personal Touch

Adding a layer of personal branding, The Republic of Tea’s hibiscus is sourced from Nigeria — notably, Meghan has previously revealed through a DNA test that she is “43% Nigerian.”

While this may be a coincidence, it’s a curious connection given Meghan’s 2024 visit to Nigeria with Prince Harry.

Quiet Confirmations and Changed Details

Even though there’s no formal confirmation, As Ever’s own FAQ section hints at partnerships with top-tier vendors.

Their shipping policy also mentions that products ship from The Republic of Tea’s fulfillment centers.

When asked about the connection, Meghan’s team declined to comment.

Netflix Ties and A Lifestyle Empire in Bloom

This tea venture is just one part of Meghan’s growing brand.

It follows the release of her Netflix show With Love, Meghan, part of the Sussexes’ high-profile deal with the streaming service.

As Ever, her brand, is said to be a partnership with Netflix itself.

The Republic of Tea, founded in 1992 and now boasting over 350 blends, has its own established history — including themed teas for popular TV shows.

It’s currently run by Todd Rubin, whose family acquired the company in the early ’90s.

What’s New in the Pantry

Last week, Meghan unveiled three new As Ever products: a Napa Valley rosé, orange blossom honey, and apricot spread.

These joined six returning favorites from the original launch — items like crepe mix, floral sprinkles, and herbal teas — which had previously sold out within 45 minutes.

Her new rosé wine is expected to be available from July 1, featuring “soft notes of stone fruit, gentle minerality and a lasting finish.”

Meanwhile, the $28 orange blossom honey and the $9-$14 apricot spread were described by Meghan as pantry highlights meant to bring joy.

A Strategic Story of Whimsy and Warmth

When Meghan first introduced As Ever, she described the products as being “infused with joy, love, and a touch of whimsy.”

It’s a message she continues to carry through each release, despite growing scrutiny over her pricing and sourcing choices.

MailOnline has reached out to both The Republic of Tea and Netflix for clarification on their role in the As Ever project.

For now, Meghan’s tea venture remains both a success in sales and a subject of debate.

And as far as the Duchess is concerned, it seems she hopes her next brew continues to spark interest — and maybe even a little delight.
