Max Verstappen shuts down Mercedes switch rumours as Red Bull star commits his Formula One future ahead of British Grand Prix at Silverstone

As the buzz grows louder ahead of the British Grand Prix, there’s been plenty of noise about Max Verstappen possibly making a surprise move to Mercedes.

But in a candid sit-down, the four-time world champion sets the record straight—he’s not going anywhere.

And that includes any dream team-up with George Russell.

Staying Loyal to Red Bull—No Ifs or Buts

Forget the rumors. Verstappen is sticking with Red Bull, just like he said he would back in 2021.

As far as he’s concerned, his commitment hasn’t wavered.

“That’s still the target,” he says confidently. “I’m fully committed to this team.”

And with major regulation changes coming to Formula One in 2026, Max doesn’t see the logic in gambling his future with a move now.

It’s too uncertain, and Red Bull is still where he feels most at home—a place that’s nurtured his career from day one.

The George Russell Question? Not Even on His Radar

Despite all the speculation about teaming up with George Russell—whom he clashed with just last month in Spain—Verstappen insists it’s simply not something he’s considered.

“Those stories don’t even exist in my mind,” he says.

“Driving for another team or taking time out—none of that has ever crossed my mind.”

As for his relationship with Russell, Max keeps it professional.

“We get on fine,” he shrugs. “Things happen on track, but I don’t hold grudges.”

Verstappen on Driving Style, Critics, and His Own Legacy

Verstappen knows his aggressive style can ruffle feathers, and he’s okay with that.

He’s not interested in reshaping people’s opinions.

“I came into Formula One to perform for myself and the people closest to me,” he says.

“Not to win a certain number of titles or please everyone.”

Asked how he wants to be remembered when his contract ends in 2028—or possibly beyond—he gives a typically grounded answer.

“I’ve already achieved everything I wanted to.

Winning more would be great, but it’s not everything,” he says.

“How people remember me doesn’t really matter.”

Family Life, Stomach Bugs, and Banter with the Boss

In the middle of it all, Verstappen has also been adapting to fatherhood.

His daughter Lily, born just two months ago with partner Kelly Piquet (daughter of three-time world champ Nelson), has thankfully been sleeping well.

“I count myself lucky,” he says.

Just before our chat, Max had spent some time with Red Bull boss Christian Horner—plenty to discuss with the team’s dominance being challenged recently.

But he seems relaxed. He even jokes about missing a Red Bull event due to a stomach bug, teasing the interviewer for being a “bad shot” at the team’s clay shooting day.

Advice, Tough Love, and That Strong Bond with Dad

Verstappen’s father, Jos, a former F1 driver himself, remains a huge influence.

Though they don’t see each other often these days, their connection is still deep.

“We talk on the phone, and when we do catch up, it’s always meaningful,” Max says.

“We don’t always agree, but I respect his opinion.

I know he only wants the best for me.”

Their Dutch straightforwardness means the feedback can be blunt—but Max appreciates it.

“It works for our relationship,” he says.

Booed at Silverstone? Verstappen Is Unbothered

Max knows that Silverstone, the home of Lewis Hamilton, isn’t always the warmest crowd for him.

And after their fiery history—remember that infamous 2021 clash?—he’s bracing for a few boos.

He’ll be staying at his usual spot, his motorhome parked at Silverstone Farm, but he says any negativity from fans has been minimal.

“Nothing aggressive,” he says with a grin. “Luckily. Luckily for them.”

More Than Just F1 on His Mind

Despite his focus on racing, Verstappen admits he’s already looking ahead to life beyond Formula One.

He’s got his GT3 racing and sim team projects, plus his growing family.

“Even if I stopped racing today, I’d have plenty to keep me busy,” he says.

For now, though, he’s still laser-focused on competing—and making the most of every moment behind the wheel.
