Marvel Studios is investigating a leak of the script of the movie “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” which occurred just a month before the movie was released in theaters.
In January, a 63-page transcript of dialogue from the “Ant-Man” film was posted on Reddit. Marvel is now trying to identify the individual or individuals responsible for the leak.
According to piracy news site TorrentFreak, the leaked dialogue was edited and/or displayed in a Portuguese web interface, and there is evidence that suggests it was “intended for use in subtitles.” The leaked text was also described as “translated dialogue,” and attributed to screenwriter Jeff Loveness.
Marvel has filed a subpoena request in California federal district court, in accordance with the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), asking Reddit to expose whoever posted the movie dialogue to the r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers subreddit “on or about” Jan. 20, 2023.
The company has also requested “all Identifying Information for the user ‘u/MSSmods’” and “any other user(s) responsible for posting, editing, and/or maintaining the content” that was at any point available on the subreddit between Jan. 15 and Feb. 15.
Someone allegedly shared the same information and dialogue to a Google Doc, leading Marvel to file a DMCA subpoena request for Google as well.
As of Tuesday morning, the Reddit thread mentioned in the court documents seems to have been deleted, but TorrentFreak reported that it was still online with just spoilers and no dialogue text.
“Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” was released in theaters on Feb. 17.
