Marshall Munetsi completes incredible move to Wolverhampton Wanderers after being overlooked by Orlando Pirates in South Africa

Six years ago, Marshall Munetsi was considered not good enough for Orlando Pirates.

Fast forward to 2025, and the Zimbabwean midfield maestro has just completed a jaw-dropping €18 million (R349 million) move to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the English Premier League.

For a player who once earned as little as R5,000 per month in South Africa, his new reported weekly salary of €51,000 (R1 million) at Wolves is nothing short of life-changing.

The 28-year-old is now set to showcase his talents on one of the biggest football stages in the world.

A Dream Move to England

Munetsi, who previously played for French side Reims, made the switch to Wolves on deadline day, securing a chance to play in the highly competitive Premier League.

He could make his debut in the FA Cup against Blackburn Rovers on February 9 or face league leaders Liverpool at Anfield on February 16.

Speaking about his transfer, Munetsi couldn’t hide his excitement.

“I’m delighted. It’s a dream come true for me.

I’ve always wanted to be part of something big, and being part of Wolves is something that is very big for me, and is big for my family,” he told the club’s official website.

“The Premier League is the best place to be, so I’m delighted to join the family, to join the team.”

The Road to Success

Munetsi’s journey has been anything but easy.

He started his career in Zimbabwe with Blue Rangers FC before making his way to South Africa, where he played for FC Cape Town, Orlando Pirates, and Baroka FC.

His time at Pirates lasted two years before he was released in 2019.

That setback turned into an opportunity when he secured a free transfer to Reims, where he became a key player in Ligue 1. Over 159 appearances, he scored 21 goals, provided 14 assists, and picked up 33 yellow cards—proving his presence in midfield is as physical as it is technical.

Now, standing at 1.88 meters tall, Munetsi brings his all-action playing style to Wolves, where his energy and work rate are expected to add bite to their midfield.

A Player to Watch in the EPL

Munetsi’s move to Wolves is a testament to his resilience and determination.

Once overlooked, he now has the chance to prove himself at the highest level.

From earning peanuts in South Africa to signing a multi-million euro deal in England, his story is one of perseverance, hard work, and belief.
