Erik ten Hag has received a boost from Manchester United’s chief executive, Omar Berrada, who has shown strong support for the manager.

Despite this backing, Ten Hag acknowledges that he faces high expectations at Old Trafford.

Struggles at the Start of the Season

Manchester United ended the Premier League season in eighth place back in May, and the new season hasn’t started much better.

With two losses in their first three games, Ten Hag’s squad is already under pressure.

Their upcoming match against Southampton at St Mary’s is crucial, especially after recent defeats to Brighton and Liverpool.

Notably, United has not lost three consecutive league games since 2015.

Public Endorsement and Managerial Pressure

Before United’s recent 3-0 defeat to Liverpool, Berrada and new sporting director Dan Ashworth publicly expressed their confidence in Ten Hag.

However, the Dutch manager understands that results on the pitch will ultimately decide his future.

“In football, winning is essential; you need to deliver,” Ten Hag said.

“It’s positive that the new leadership recognizes this and is committed to helping us improve. We have set higher goals for ourselves.”

Navigating Club Changes

Ten Hag has also pointed out that recent changes at Old Trafford might be contributing to the team’s poor form.

The arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s minority stake and the resulting shift in football operations have brought about significant changes, including the appointment of Berrada, Ashworth, and new technical director Jason Wilcox.

Additionally, Ten Hag has welcomed new assistants Ruud van Nistelrooy and Rene Hake.

“There’s no denying that the club has undergone a lot of changes in the past eight or nine months,” he noted.

“We’ve seen a complete overhaul in leadership, structure, and ownership.”
