Manchester United have finally secured the signing of RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko, beating fierce competition from Newcastle United.

The 22-year-old Slovenian was at the center of one of this summer’s most talked-about transfer sagas, with both clubs eager to land his signature just weeks before the new Premier League season kicks off.

Transfer Tug-of-War Between Manchester United and Newcastle

Newcastle kicked off the chase with a €75 million (£65m) bid plus €5 million (£4.3m) in add-ons, which Leipzig rejected.

They came back with a higher base offer of €80 million (£70m), excluding bonuses.

Not to be outdone, Manchester United quickly matched with a €75 million (£65m) bid plus €10 million (£8.7m) in add-ons.

Newcastle then fired in their final bid of €82.5 million (£72m) plus €2.5 million (£2.1m), which Leipzig accepted.

But the deciding factor was Sesko’s preference: he made it clear to both clubs that Manchester United was his first choice.

That gave Old Trafford the green light to fast-track negotiations and seal the deal.

Sesko Joins a Strengthening Manchester United Attack

Sesko joins a summer recruitment spree at Manchester United, with Matheus Cunha arriving for £62.5 million and Bryan Mbeumo for £71 million.

Owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos have pinpointed Ruben Amorim’s forward line as a crucial area for investment.

The club confirmed the signing with a statement: “Manchester United is pleased to confirm that Benjamin Sesko has joined the club, subject to registration.

The Slovenia international has signed a contract until June 2030.”

Sesko Expresses Excitement About Joining Manchester United

Speaking about his move, Sesko shared his enthusiasm: “The history of Manchester United is obviously very special, but what really excites me is the future.

When we discussed the project, it was clear everything is in place for this team to grow and compete for the biggest trophies again soon.”

He added, “From the moment I arrived, I could feel the positive energy and family environment the club has created.

It’s clearly the perfect place to reach my maximum level and fulfill my ambitions.

I can’t wait to start learning from Ruben and connecting with my teammates to achieve the success we all know we are capable of.”

Club Officials Praise Sesko’s Potential and Talent

Jason Wilcox, Director of Football, praised Sesko’s qualities: “Benjamin possesses a rare combination of electrifying pace and physical dominance, making him one of the most exceptional young talents in world football.”

“We’ve followed his career closely, and our analysis shows he has the qualities and personality to thrive at Manchester United.

Under Ruben’s guidance and with our performance team, Benjamin will be in the perfect environment to reach his world-class potential.”

Wilcox added, “The enthusiasm of all our new signings shows the appeal and stature of Manchester United as we build a team ready to challenge for the biggest honours.”

Sesko Bids Farewell to RB Leipzig with Fond Memories

Sesko took to social media to say goodbye to Leipzig: “Thank you, RB Leipzig.

I arrived as a kid and leave with beautiful memories of this club forever. From day one, you welcomed me like family.

I’ve grown, learned, and experienced unforgettable moments here.”

“To the fans, your love and support have meant more than words can say.

This club will always hold a special place in my heart. Forever grateful.”

Newcastle Faces a Tough Spot With Star Striker Alexander Isak’s Future Uncertain

Meanwhile, Newcastle’s failure to land Sesko puts the club in a tricky position just days before the Premier League season starts.

Their star striker, Alexander Isak, recently submitted a transfer request amid interest from Liverpool.

Isak skipped Newcastle’s preseason tour to train alone with former club Real Sociedad but later rejoined the squad.

Liverpool’s £110 million bid was rejected, but they’re expected to return after Sesko’s move to Manchester United was confirmed.

This missed transfer target complicates Newcastle’s hopes of keeping Isak or securing a suitable replacement ahead of the season.

Manchester United Continue Preseason With Draw Against Everton

As the transfer drama unfolds, Manchester United played out a 2-2 friendly draw with Everton.

Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring with a penalty, Mason Mount added a second for United, but Everton fought back to equalize twice.

Ruben Amorim tried a 3-5-2 formation with Cunha and Mbeumo leading the attack, supported by captain Fernandes.

With Sesko now on board as a striker, Cunha and Mbeumo might drop deeper into attacking midfield roles, allowing Fernandes to anchor the midfield.

United Eye Brighton’s Carlos Baleba Amid Midfield Reinforcement Plans

According to The Athletic, Manchester United have also approached Brighton regarding defensive midfielder Carlos Baleba.

The 21-year-old impressed last season with 34 Premier League appearances and three goals.

However, despite United’s interest, Brighton’s reluctance to sell and the club’s heavy summer spending may make a deal unlikely this window.
