While most eyes are on Manchester United’s summer signings, Ruben Amorim is quietly making bold moves behind the scenes.
With the club’s preseason tour underway in the U.S., Amorim has made it clear he’s not afraid to reintroduce some sidelined stars if the market doesn’t deliver the right price tag.
Garnacho, Sancho, Antony, and Malacia Training Alone
As United travels across the States, four notable names—Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia—have been left back in Manchester.
Instead of joining the first team abroad, they’re putting in work at Carrington, away from the spotlight.
The club’s intention is clear: they’re hoping to cash in on these players to make way for new arrivals.
However, Amorim isn’t panicking.
If the market doesn’t meet Manchester United’s expectations, he’s ready to welcome the quartet back into the fold.
Amorim Open to Reintegrating the “Bomb Squad”
“I’m totally fine with these guys coming back if it comes to that,” Amorim explained.
“Right now, we’re just giving them space and time to reflect. But make no mistake, they’re still Manchester United players.”
He pointed out that the club’s top brass—Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox—have put clear valuations on each player.
Amorim warned that if potential buyers are waiting to snatch a last-minute bargain, they may be surprised.
“We’re not in a rush. If no deal happens, they’ll come back and fight for their place.”
World Cup Motivation Could Reignite Competition
Amorim even sees a silver lining in keeping them around.
With the World Cup on the horizon, he believes their hunger for playing time could become a huge advantage.
“If they want to make the squad next year, they need to be playing. And that creates healthy competition. It’s a win-win.”
Squad Chemistry Comes First
Asked why those four were separated from the main tour squad, Amorim emphasized culture and attitude.
“You can feel the bond in top teams. That chemistry, that unity—it matters.”
He reflected on what it means to wear the Manchester United shirt.
“This is the best club in the world. Everyone needs to understand that. If you’re here, you should feel proud.
You should be all-in. That connection—between players, staff, everyone—it can get you through tough matches, even when you’re not playing your best football.”
Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo Strengthen the Squad
Speaking in Chicago at Soldier Field, Amorim was joined by £62.5 million signing Matheus Cunha.
Alongside him, new addition Bryan Mbeumo has been slotted into the other No.10 role in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 setup.
Although a new central striker hasn’t yet arrived, Amorim isn’t sounding the alarm.
Content With His Current Attack Options
“I’m happy with the players I’ve got,” he said.
“We’ve got to be smart with new signings. If we start the season with this group, that’s okay with me because everyone here wants to be here.”
That desire to commit to the club, despite other tempting offers, means a lot to Amorim.
“Bryan and Matheus had other options—Champions League clubs even—but they chose United. That speaks volumes.”
Hojlund and Zirkzee Ready to Step Up
Even without a marquee striker signing, Amorim is optimistic.
“We’ve got players like Josh Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund competing for that role.
Now it’s just about building chemistry and sharpening those combinations.”
What’s Next?
While Amorim prepares for the new season with a tighter, more unified squad, the ball is in the court of interested clubs.
Will they meet United’s valuation and take Garnacho, Sancho, Antony, or Malacia off their hands?
Or will the so-called “Bomb Squad” return, hungry to prove their worth in red once again?
One thing is certain—Amorim won’t compromise on standards, and he’s more than ready to handle whatever the transfer window throws his way.
