A man who climbed through a woman’s window and sexually assaulted her just hours after they met at a barbecue has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.
The Shocking Incident
The incident took place in Leicester on April 17, 2022, when Antanas Jancevskis and his victim attended the same gathering near Glenfield Road.
After the event, the woman was taken home by two friends and fell asleep on her sofa. However, what she didn’t know was that Jancevskis, 35, would soon invade her privacy in the most violent way possible.
The Assault
Later that night, the woman awoke to find Jancevskis lying next to her on the sofa. He then proceeded to rape her.
In a moment of sheer horror, the woman managed to escape when he left to use the bathroom, running from her flat and seeking help from a passerby, who quickly called the police.
Police Action and Trial
Jancevskis was arrested by police in the early hours of April 18, 2022, after the victim bravely came forward.
In February 2025, after a trial at Leicester Crown Court, Jancevskis was found guilty of one count of rape.
The Sentence and Statement from Authorities
At today’s sentencing, Jancevskis, a resident of Castle Street in Boston, Lincolnshire, was given a 15-year prison sentence.
Additionally, he will be placed on the sex offender register for life.
Detective Constable James Alcock, the investigating officer, described the case as deeply disturbing, noting the particularly unsettling nature of Jancevskis entering the victim’s home through a window.
“The victim has shown great bravery in reliving her ordeal during the trial,” Alcock said.
“I hope this conviction provides some reassurance to the community that justice has been served, and the perpetrator is now behind bars.”
