Mandla ‘Mampintsha’ Maphumulo, a member of Big Nuz, has died after suffering a mild stroke earlier this week. A week after returning after performing with Big Nuz, the 40-year-old was hospitalized.
Afrotainment published a statement on Thursday confirming the news of his hospitalization. He was admitted to the Durban Durdoc Hospital.
A source close to Mampintsha’s wife, Bongekile Simelane, often known as Babes Wodumo, has verified his death.
Mampintsha was a musician and producer who was a part of the Big Nuz band alongside Mzi ‘Danger’ Tshomela and the late Sbusiso ‘R Mashesha’ Khoma. In 2002, he established the renowned kwaito ensemble.
His successful songs, including Joburg and Ngeke, earned him widespread recognition. They had collectively released seven albums with the band. The group just made a comeback and intended to name their upcoming album after the late R Mashesha.
