Mamelodi Sundowns prepare for a crucial Nedbank Cup quarterfinal showdown against Sekhukhune United at Lucas Moripe Stadium

It’s been a while since Mamelodi Sundowns fans got to see their beloved Kabo Yellow in action.

The last time they took to the field was back on 16 March, and a lot has happened since then.

After a surprising 2-1 loss to Orlando Pirates in Soweto, the team is now focused on bouncing back in their next big challenge.

A Chance for Redemption Against Sekhukhune

Sundowns’ next fixture is set for Friday, 28 March, and it’s a crucial one.

They’ll be facing Sekhukhune United in the quarterfinals of the Nedbank Cup.

The match kicks off at 19:00 at Lucas Moripe Stadium, and fans will be hoping to see their team come back stronger after their recent setback.

Ronwen Williams Sees the Silver Lining in His Injury

For goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, the past few weeks have been a time for reflection and recovery.

The 33-year-old shot-stopper missed five games in February due to a shoulder injury, but instead of seeing it as a setback, he believes it might have been exactly what he needed.

“No player wants to be injured, but I think it came at the right time for me,” Williams shared in an interview with FARPost.

“I’ve played so much football over the last few years, and honestly, this injury has done me wonders.

I’ve got more energy now, and I’m excited about playing again.”

Williams admitted that before his break, the constant grind of matches every three days had taken a toll on him.

“There was no excitement anymore. It just felt repetitive.

But now, after getting some time off, I feel like I’ve got my spark back,” he added.

The Sundowns goalkeeper also acknowledged that fatigue had crept into his performances, leading to some uncharacteristic goals conceded. “We’re all human.

We get tired and frustrated, and I think that injury gave me a chance to reset.

Now, I feel like both my team and my country need me more than ever.”

Representing Bafana Bafana in Ivory Coast

Williams won’t have too much time to settle back in, though.

Before returning to club action, he’ll be heading off with Bafana Bafana for their upcoming international fixture against Benin in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

The match is scheduled for Tuesday at 18:00, and it will be another chance for Williams to showcase his form.

Who Will Take the League Title?

As Sundowns prepare for their cup match, the big question remains: who will come out on top in the league this season? Will it be Mamelodi Sundowns or Orlando Pirates?
