Lynn Forbes Pays Tribute to Late Son AKA on What Would Have Been His 37th Birthday with Heartfelt Instagram Post

On January 28, 2025, Lynn Forbes, the mother of slain rapper Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, known professionally as AKA, took to Instagram to share a moving tribute in honor of her son’s 37th birthday.

A Mother’s Emotional Reflection on Her Son’s Birth

AKA, who tragically lost his life on February 10, 2023, in a shooting outside Wish Restaurant in Durban, would have turned 37 on this special day.

To commemorate the occasion, his mother Lynn posted a heartfelt message, recalling the moment her son was born.

In her tribute, Lynn wrote a poetic reflection on the day AKA entered the world, filled with love and awe.

“On this day, at 1:15 in the early morning, I heard your first cry, I felt your warmth as you were placed on my chest.

Your natural birth, 37 years ago, left me exhausted yet invigorated.

I couldn’t take my eyes off you.

Counting every tiny toe, every little finger,” she shared, capturing the deep emotional bond between mother and son.

The Unbreakable Bond of Motherhood

Lynn continued her tribute, reminiscing about the overwhelming joy and love she felt in that moment. “My tiny baby boy, my firstborn.

Your hands wide open, long legs dangling. 2.75kg, 54cm. So perfect, so full of promise, you left me in awe.

In that moment, my heart changed forever; you made me a mother.

I was yours, and you were mine. A bond unbreakable, an infinite love.”

She concluded with an emotional statement: “I can never say ‘happy heavenly birthday.’

For your birth day is an occasion forever etched in my heart. Happy birthday, Kiernan.”

AKA’s Legacy and Those He Left Behind

Aside from his mother, AKA’s passing left behind a family that includes his father Tony Forbes, his brother Steffan Forbes, and his young daughter Kairo Forbes.

Kairo, the daughter he shared with DJ Zinhle, was co-parented by the two, who maintained a supportive relationship for their child.

At the time of his death, AKA was also in a relationship with rapper Nadia Nakai, who later opened up about coping with the loss of the man she loved during the third season of Young, Famous & African.
