The Los Angeles Rams have made a quiet but strategic move to reinforce their quarterback roster by signing Dresser Winn on Monday.

At 26 years old, Winn isn’t exactly new to the Rams organization — this will be his third time joining the team, albeit in different capacities.

Third Time’s the Charm for Dresser Winn

Previously, Winn’s experience with the Rams was limited to practice squad stints.

This time, he’s signed a one-year deal that puts him firmly on the roster.

Head coach Sean McVay is bringing him in as a backup to veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford, alongside Jimmy Garoppolo and Stetson Bennett.

Journey Through CFL and UFL Before Returning to LA

Between his times with the Rams, Winn gained playing experience elsewhere.

He suited up for the Edmonton Elks in the Canadian Football League and also spent time with the Memphis Showboats during the 2025 United Football League season.

These stops helped him develop his game and prepared him for this latest shot with the Rams.

Stafford’s Future Had Fans on Edge

Stafford’s place as the Rams’ starting quarterback was far from guaranteed earlier this year.

After a disappointing playoff loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Stafford hinted he might retire.

However, the 37-year-old ultimately signed a new contract worth $44 million for the 2025 season, choosing to stay with the Rams for his 17th NFL campaign.

Close Calls and Potential Moves

Before re-signing, Stafford entertained talks with other teams, including the New York Giants and Las Vegas Raiders.

The Raiders’ offseason overhaul had an interesting addition — Tom Brady acting as a minority owner and advisor.

Despite those tempting prospects, Stafford opted to remain loyal to Los Angeles.

Had Stafford departed, Aaron Rodgers was reportedly eager to fill the vacancy.

Rodgers, however, went on to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Coach McVay Hints at Possible End of an Era

Sean McVay hasn’t shied away from discussing Stafford’s future openly.

Speaking in March, he acknowledged that the 2025 season could be Stafford’s last, though he hopes it isn’t.

“We have a chance with him every time he’s at the switch, and love working with him.

And I think he can play as long as he wants, but fortunately, I’m hoping it’s a couple more years,” McVay said on Sirius XM’s Mad Dog Radio.

Rams Gear Up for Season Opener

The Rams kick off their 2025 campaign on September 7 at SoFi Stadium against the Houston Texans.

They’ll face the Eagles again in Philadelphia during Week 3 — a chance for revenge after last year’s playoff heartbreak.

Stafford won’t participate in the three preseason games, which could give fans a first glimpse of Dresser Winn in action against teams like the Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Chargers, and Cleveland Browns.
