Just as NFL training camps begin to heat up, the Los Angeles Chargers have dropped a major headline of their own.

They’re locking down one of their most crucial players — left tackle Rashawn Slater — in a deal that’s making waves across the league.

Slater Set to Sign Record-Smashing Extension

According to reports, the Chargers have reached a contract extension agreement with Slater that’s set to reshape the offensive line pay scale.

The 26-year-old is expected to sign a four-year deal worth a staggering $114 million, with a record-breaking $92 million guaranteed.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter was first to break the news.

If the numbers hold true, Slater will officially become the highest-paid offensive lineman in NFL history.

That’s a massive milestone for a player who’s quickly built a reputation as a cornerstone of the Chargers’ front line.

Months of Negotiation Finally Pay Off

It turns out this wasn’t an overnight deal. Slater’s representatives at CAA Football and the Chargers front office have reportedly been in talks for weeks.

With the extension now in place, Slater is no longer heading into the final year of his rookie contract — instead, he’ll remain in Los Angeles through 2029.

Slater’s Journey from Draft Pick to Franchise Leader

Slater was the 13th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, and it didn’t take him long to prove his worth.

In just four seasons, he’s already notched two Pro Bowl selections.

Though he missed much of the 2022 season due to a biceps injury, he’s otherwise been a reliable and dominant presence on the offensive line.

Teammates and coaches have raved about his impact — both on the field and in the locker room.

A Vital Piece in Protecting Herbert

Quarterback Justin Herbert, who knows more than anyone how important good protection is, had nothing but praise for his left tackle last season.

“Rashawn is such a great teammate, great locker room guy.

He’s competitive, very smart, very intelligent,” Herbert said.

The extension shows the Chargers are fully committed to keeping their franchise QB upright — and confident — going into the 2025 season.

Looking Ahead to a Stronger Season

The Chargers will be hoping that securing Slater leads to even greater things on the field.

After a rough 5–12 record in 2023, the team bounced back last season with key wins — including a Week 10 victory that turned the tide and a clutch Week 17 win against the Patriots that locked in a Wild Card berth.

Now, with their offensive line even more solidified, Los Angeles is aiming higher — and they’ve made it clear that Rashawn Slater is central to that plan.
