Football runs in the family for the Ferdinands, and now the next generation is making his mark.
Lorenz Ferdinand, the 18-year-old son of Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand, is set to spend the rest of the season with Havant and Waterlooville.
A Fresh Opportunity for Lorenz
Currently on Brighton & Hove Albion’s books, Lorenz has been honing his skills with the club’s Under-21 squad.
But now, he’s taking the next step in his development, joining the seventh-tier side on a work-experience loan.
Havant and Waterlooville, who play in the Southern League Premier Division South, are currently pushing for a strong finish to their season.
The club confirmed the news in an enthusiastic statement, saying, “Havant and Waterlooville Football Club are thrilled to announce that goalkeeper Lorenz Ferdinand has joined on work experience from Premier League outfit Brighton & Hove Albion for the remainder of the season! We welcome Lorenz to the Hawks and look forward to seeing him in action very soon.”
Lorenz’s Thoughts on the Move
For Lorenz, the transition has been a smooth one. Speaking about his new team, he shared, “It’s been really good.
Everyone has made me feel really welcome.
It’s a great club from what I’ve seen so far, and it’s good to be in and around the boys.”
Following in His Father’s Footsteps
Lorenz is the eldest of Rio Ferdinand’s five children and has been carving out his own path in football.
In 2023, he signed a management deal with New Era Global Sports, a move that his father proudly highlighted on Instagram.
“Our eldest is on his own journey in football,” Rio wrote.
“Another nice moment signing with @neweraglobalsports, well earned through hard work and dedication.
It’s a long road full of ups and downs, so the right and professional support is required. Love you, Lorenz.”
A Promising Career Ahead
While still early in his career, Lorenz has already had a brief taste of Premier League 2 action, making an appearance for Brighton’s U21s in a 4-2 win over Southampton.
He played for just four minutes in that match but still had the challenge of facing a goal during that short spell.
Now, with more game time on the horizon at Havant and Waterlooville, Lorenz has the opportunity to gain valuable experience and continue his development.
With his father’s support and his own dedication, he’s taking the first steps in what could be an exciting football career.
