Carlos Mac Allister, father of Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, has given an insight into his son’s future at Anfield, amid increasing rumors linking the player with a move to top European clubs.
The 26-year-old Argentine international has become a key figure for the Reds since his move from Brighton in 2023, contributing significantly to their midfield and helping the team in their pursuit of major trophies.
Alexis Mac Allister’s Rise at Liverpool
Since joining Liverpool for an initial £35 million, Mac Allister has impressed with his consistent performances, racking up 24 goal contributions across 90 matches.
His efforts helped the team as they closed in on the Premier League title, with the midfielder making 30 appearances in 31 league games this season.
Mac Allister’s form has drawn attention from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Real Madrid, especially after comments he made about potentially playing in Spain one day.
In December, Mac Allister sparked a media frenzy when asked about the possibility of playing in La Liga.
He expressed his fondness for Spain, citing the similarities in language and culture to his native Argentina.
While admitting he could see himself playing in Spain someday, Mac Allister was quick to assure fans that he was content at Liverpool and not thinking about his future beyond his current club.
Father Carlos Comments on La Liga Links
Carlos Mac Allister, who has acted as his son’s representative throughout his career, addressed the La Liga rumors in a recent interview.
Speaking to Picado TV, an Argentine channel, he poured cold water on the speculation, confirming that there were no plans for Alexis to leave Liverpool at this time. “For now, I don’t think so (leaving Liverpool),” Carlos said.
“Alexis is very happy where he is. He lives in Manchester, and on the block where he lives, there’s Robertson, Gomez, and Lisandro Martinez just a few blocks away.”
Carlos also noted that Alexis’ smooth adaptation to life in England was aided by his ability to speak English and his understanding of the game. “I think it’s been the best thing he’s had, and that’s why the adaptation was easier.”
A Memorable Meeting with Jurgen Klopp
Carlos Mac Allister also reflected on his first meeting with former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp ahead of Alexis’ move to the club.
After a successful stint at Brighton, Alexis was signed by Liverpool for a release clause that many saw as a bargain.
Carlos recounted the conversation he had with Klopp, where they discussed the player’s potential at the club and Klopp’s vision for him.
One memorable moment during the meeting came when Klopp asked Carlos for his thoughts after Liverpool’s heavy 5-2 defeat to Real Madrid in February 2023.
Carlos, who doesn’t speak English fluently, shared his honest opinion about Liverpool’s defensive weaknesses, suggesting that they needed to be more aggressive in their marking.
Despite the language barrier, Carlos was clear in his response, and Klopp appreciated his input, eventually adopting his suggestion.
This exchange marked the beginning of a strong relationship between the two.
Alexis Mac Allister’s Contract and Future at Liverpool
With a contract at Liverpool until 2028 and having earned 38 caps for Argentina, Alexis Mac Allister’s future at Anfield appears secure for the foreseeable future.
He remains a vital part of Jurgen Klopp’s squad as they aim to secure the Premier League title, with Liverpool sitting 11 points clear of Arsenal with just seven games remaining.
Mac Allister is expected to return to action this weekend when Liverpool face West Ham, as they continue their push for silverware this season.
