It’s not unusual for footballers to get caught up in summer transfer drama, but things are heating up fast for Liverpool’s Luis Diaz.

The Colombian winger, who’s been a key part of the Reds’ recent success, now looks set to make a big move to Germany—possibly sooner than many expected.

Left Out and Left Wondering

The first big sign that something was going on? Diaz was a surprise omission from Liverpool’s squad for their pre-season clash with AC Milan.

While manager Arne Slot tried to keep things diplomatic, he did admit Diaz’s absence was related to the swirling transfer rumors.

“In Lucho’s situation, it was, yeah,” Slot told reporters.

“There’s a lot going on around him right now and while he’s training well, we’ve decided not to play him just yet.”

When asked directly whether Diaz wants to leave, Slot deflected, saying, “I’m not the person to ask.”

Bayern Munich in Pole Position

According to Sky Sports, Bayern Munich are deep into negotiations with Liverpool over a deal believed to be worth around £69 million.

It’s their second attempt at landing Diaz after their initial bid—reportedly around £58.5 million—was turned down.

Diaz, 28, has been on Bayern’s radar all summer, and with Barcelona now out of the picture, the Bundesliga giants are firm favourites to get the deal done.

The Catalan club had expressed interest but backed off due to the complexity of Diaz’s contract situation.

A Door Opens for Isak?

If Diaz does leave Anfield, Liverpool could be in a position to chase another headline-grabbing target: Newcastle striker Alexander Isak. Mail Sport recently reported that the Swedish international has told the Magpies he wants out—and Liverpool are lining up a British record-breaking £150 million bid.

Several Newcastle teammates reportedly expect Isak to leave, and Diaz’s potential exit might be the domino that sets everything in motion.

From Porto to Premier League Glory

Liverpool fans will no doubt feel bittersweet about the possibility of Diaz departing.

Since arriving from Porto for £50 million in January 2022—snatching him away from rivals Manchester United and Tottenham—he’s been a key figure for the club.

In the 2024/25 season alone, Diaz bagged 13 goals and 7 assists in the Premier League, helping the Reds secure a thrilling title win.

He was under contract until 2027, which gave Liverpool some leverage in the negotiations.

Signals Were Mixed

Back in May, following the Reds’ title celebrations, Diaz gave fans a sense of reassurance when he told Telemundo he was “very, very happy” at Liverpool.

But in the same breath, he admitted he was in contact with other clubs—a subtle hint that this summer could bring change.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta even praised the Colombian recently, saying, “I like Diaz, he’s a very complete player.”

But he added that the club couldn’t pursue him due to complications with his Liverpool contract.

What Happens Next?

For now, Diaz remains in Liverpool’s pre-season training camp, still showing up and working hard.

But his absence from recent matches and the increasing noise around Bayern’s offer suggest the writing might be on the wall.

If the deal goes through, not only will Liverpool lose one of their most creative attackers, but it might just spark a fresh chapter—with a mega-money bid for Isak waiting in the wings.

Stay tuned—this transfer window just got a lot more interesting.
