The British government has pledged to hire 20,000 new police officers by March 2023.
Here is a list of the number of new police officers recruited in England and Wales by individual force, as of March 31, 2023.
Breakdown by Individual Force:
The list provides the name of each police force, followed by the target for the number of new officers to be hired by March 31, 2023, the provisional number of new officers as of March 31, 2023, the number of new officers above or below the target, and the percentage above or below the target.
The breakdown shows that some police forces have exceeded their targets, while others have fallen short.
Some of the police forces that have exceeded their targets by a significant margin include Derbyshire, Devon & Cornwall, North Yorkshire, and Thames Valley.
On the other hand, the Metropolitan Police force is significantly below their target with 1,089 fewer officers than planned.
It remains to be seen if the government will be able to achieve its target of hiring 20,000 new police officers by March 2023.
However, this breakdown shows that progress is being made towards the goal.
The hiring of new police officers is an important step in improving public safety and tackling crime in England and Wales.
