Rapper Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Banks, was arrested by Broward County Police in Florida, adding a new layer to a recent case that has rocked the hip-hop community.
Just hours before his arrest, five men associated with his OTF (Only the Family) collective were detained, accused of orchestrating a murder-for-hire plot aimed at rapper Quando Rondo, following tensions stemming from the 2020 death of King Von, Lil Durk’s close friend and mentee.
King Von’s Death Sparks Violent Repercussions
The recent wave of arrests appears to be part of an ongoing investigation linked to the high-profile murder of King Von.
Known by his real name Dayvon Bennett, King Von was a central figure in the Chicago drill rap scene and a key member of OTF.
Prosecutors allege that the August 2022 attack on Rondo, whose cousin was fatally shot, was a calculated act of revenge for Von’s killing.
Details of the Plot Emerge
According to court documents, the suspects reportedly tracked Rondo, real name Terrell Bowman, with resources funded by OTF.
Surveillance footage allegedly shows one suspect renting a hotel room and meeting with others to prepare for the attack.
The plot culminated at a West Hollywood gas station, where they ambushed Bowman’s vehicle, killing his cousin Saviay’a Robinson, 24, while Bowman and his sister narrowly escaped.
Heavy Charges and Potential Penalties
The five men, identified as Kavon London Grant, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, Keith Jones, David Brian Lindsey, and Asa Houston, face severe charges, including conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire, use of a machine gun in a violent crime, and murder-for-hire resulting in death.
If convicted, they could face the death penalty.
