Liam Rosenior welcomes Axel Disasi back into Chelsea first-team training after a year-long absence at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea’s Liam Rosenior has ended Axel Disasi’s long spell away from the first team, marking a notable shift in the club’s approach to sidelined players.

The French defender, who hasn’t played for the Blues in exactly a year, has been allowed back into team training after productive discussions with the new boss.

While Disasi won’t feature in Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Cypriot side Pafos, his return signals a fresh start and the potential for future involvement as he works to regain match fitness.

Rosenior described their conversation as “really good” and emphasized that it was important to give all players a “clean slate” under his leadership.

Sterling Still on the Sidelines

Raheem Sterling, however, remains absent from training with first-team duties still on hold.

Rosenior confirmed ongoing talks with the 31-year-old about his future, describing the situation as part of broader discussions about Sterling’s career direction.

“At the moment, we’re in conversations about different options for him,” Rosenior said.

“Hopefully things will be clearer in the next few days.”

For now, Sterling remains the last member of Chelsea’s so-called ‘bomb squad’ awaiting a resolution.

Disasi’s Fitness and Future

Although Rosenior has welcomed Disasi back into the fold, the Frenchman still has some ground to make up.

Rosenior noted that the defender’s fitness lags behind the rest of the squad due to his year-long absence but insisted the club will support him fully to get up to speed.

“There’s a lot of work to do, but Axel is motivated and ready to reintegrate,” Rosenior explained.

“We’ll be working hard on his match fitness, and I’m confident he can contribute soon if the right opportunity arises.”

Fernandez Transfer Rumours Don’t Distract Chelsea

Meanwhile, speculation linking midfielder Enzo Fernandez to Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid has had no impact on Rosenior’s plans.

The Chelsea boss praised the Argentinian World Cup winner for his resilience and focus, particularly after Fernandez played 85 minutes against Brentford despite being ill amid a squad-wide virus outbreak.

“Rumours mean nothing to me,” Rosenior said.

“When you’re a world-class player, there’s always speculation you can’t control.

Enzo has been outstanding and very important to me.

I see a long-term future with him here, and we’re looking forward to working together and hopefully winning together.”

What’s Next for Chelsea

With Disasi back in training and Fernandez fully focused, Chelsea appear to be settling into Rosenior’s vision for the squad.

Sterling’s situation remains unresolved, but the emphasis is on giving players clarity and building a cohesive group ahead of crucial fixtures in both the Premier League and Europe.
