Lennox Lewis, the legendary three-time world heavyweight champion, has firmly dismissed rumors of a return to the boxing ring.
Addressing recent speculation, Lewis explained that while he has been hitting the gym, it’s purely for personal fitness as he approaches his 60th birthday next September.
“Nobody’s made me an offer to even consider anything like a return,” he clarified.
“I’m just working out to stay in great shape for the big milestone.”
Tyson vs. Paul: An Event, Not a Fight
Lewis also shared his perspective on Mike Tyson’s recent exhibition bout against YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul.
The spectacle, held at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium, sparked mixed reactions among fans and purists alike.
However, Lewis emphasized that the event served a different purpose than competitive boxing.
“Dallas was about fans enjoying seeing Mike and Jake in the ring together,” he noted.
“It was entertainment, and a lot of people had fun watching it. Boxing purists might not have loved it, but it wasn’t trying to be a world-class fight.”
Usyk vs. Fury: The Pinnacle of Heavyweight Boxing
In contrast, Lewis highlighted the significance of the upcoming heavyweight showdown between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury in Riyadh.
The fight, he said, represents the pinnacle of the sport.
“This is about the two best heavyweights in the world proving who the king is right now,” Lewis explained.
“It’s real competition, with all the drama that makes boxing so compelling.”
He dismissed any notion that Tyson’s exhibition could overshadow or diminish the importance of such a monumental clash.
“You’ve got two separate things happening—one for entertainment and one for the true essence of the sport.”
Looking Ahead to Riyadh
As a spectator, Lewis is eagerly anticipating the multi-belt title fight between Usyk and Fury, viewing it as a defining moment for modern heavyweight boxing.
While he remains focused on enjoying his retirement, the former champion is committed to celebrating the sport’s highest levels and maintaining his personal fitness journey.
With his sights set on his 60th birthday and no plans for a comeback, Lennox Lewis continues to embrace life outside the ring while honoring the legacy he helped build in it.
