After more than ten years, Lebohang Maboe is finally back where it all began.
The 30-year-old attacker has rejoined Kaizer Chiefs, the club where he first developed as a youth player, bringing with him years of experience from both Maritzburg United and Mamelodi Sundowns.
A Homecoming Full of Emotion
Maboe spoke openly about the significance of his return, describing it as a chance to finish what he started.
“I wanted to be back home, I wanted to one day play for Chiefs again because I felt like when I left, I had somehow unfinished business with the club.
Being back home right now is such a great feeling,” he shared with Sowetan.
He also emphasized the pride he feels being part of such a historic club:
“It’s such an honour and privilege to be back home and being in such a big institution like Kaizer Chiefs.
I’m glad that I’m back home and I want to do well with the team.
I want to win silverware with the team, and I’m really looking forward to the season.”
Maboe’s Journey Before Returning
Before his return, Maboe spent seven years at Mamelodi Sundowns, where he became a key figure.
Last season, he went on loan to SuperSport United.
Despite facing setbacks like a shoulder surgery, Maboe says the support from Sundowns helped him stay focused and motivated.
“It was unfortunate because I had a shoulder surgery that I had to undergo, but the team [Sundowns] has been patient with me and now being back home, all I’m just looking to do is repay the faith that they showed in me and continue to work hard,” he explained.
What Maboe Brings to Chiefs
Maboe’s return is not just sentimental—Chiefs are counting on his experience and skill to make an impact this season.
His blend of speed, creativity, and goal-scoring ability could be exactly what the team needs to compete for silverware.
Fans are already buzzing to see if he can shine in the golden jersey.
