LASWARCO Restates Commitment To Effective Water Management In Lagos

Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission (LASWARCO) has reiterated its commitment to ensure that water and wastewater services are effectively managed, just as it declared its determination to also regulate all water production activities in the State.

The Executive Secretary of LASWARCO, Mrs. Funke Adepoju, disclosed this in her address at the official presentation of prizes to the winners of the competition on #WaterForYou challenge among the pupils in the six education districts of the State.

Adepoju said the challenge was instituted to commemorate the “World Water Day”, held on the 22nd March, 2021, with the theme “Valuing Water”, and geared towards enabling the pupils in the State’s Public Schools participate in the campaign to enlighten the general populace on the value and management of water.

She said, “The challenge entailed doing a one-minute video by representatives of 23 Public Junior and Senior Schools of the State, containing a brief but yet educative information on the importance of water”.

Her words: “From the 23 entries received, we had three winners from the Junior school category with Miss Ayomikun Shina-Orowale of Epe Junior Grammar School coming first while three winners also emerged from the Secondary School category, with Miss. Barakat Eyitayo of King Ado Senior High School, Lagos Island, coming first”.

While noting that another objective of the challenge was to get the pupils involved in water management and consumption, the Executive Secretary explained that the competition was also one of the proactive measures to avoid a future water crisis in the State by giving the younger generation an opportunity to enlighten Lagosians on effective water management and consumption.

Mrs. Adepoju advised Lagosians to manage water properly by adhering to the stipulated guidelines of the Agency, while urging the winners to remain focused in their academic career and continue to be good ambassadors of water management.

“The Agency is keen on a water sector that not only takes care of the needs of current occupants of our great State, but the inhabitants of the future as well, which is in line with Mr. Governor’s commitment to a ‘Greater Lagos’ through the T.H.E.M.E.S agenda”, she said.

In her remarks, Principal of King Ado Senior High School, Mrs. Tawakalitu Akinleye, commended the State government for initiating the #WaterForYou challenge among the students, noting that the initiative will enhance measures put in place to promote effective water management among the residents.

She also applauded all teachers for painstakingly working towards the success of every child through proper education and guidance.
