The Lagos State Government has taken a step forward in its efforts to actualise development plans for excised villages in the State with the presentation of the final draft report on the Development Guide Plan for Ketu-Ijanikin excised village in Oto-Awori Local Council Development Area.
The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako, presenting the report to stakeholders over the weekend, said Ketu-Ijanikin is one of the nine excised villages in Lagos State, which have Development Guide Plans, being designed to structure the future outlook of the various communities.
“Ketu-Ijanikin Development Guide Plan is one of the nine approved by the Administration of Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu to guide the development of selected Excised Villages in Lagos State”, he said.
Dr. Salako, who spoke through the Director of Development Matters in the Ministry, Tpl. Saheed Oladimeji Animashaun, explained that the Ketu-Ijanikin Development Guide Plan would cover a period of 20 years from Y2021-Y2041.
According to him, successive administrations in the State relied on various planning instruments, both Higher and Lower Order Plans as viable instruments to guide development within Lagos State.
“For clarity, Higher-Order Plans include Master and Model City Plans while Lower Order Plans are Action Area Plans and Development Guide Plans”, he added.
He reiterated that the plan would serve as a guide for the overall development of the town, address its infrastructural needs and contain development pressures.
In his words: “It is expected that this Plan will ultimately provide lasting and pragmatic solutions to the Physical Planning problems of Ketu-Ijanikin, including perennial flooding, slum prevalence, drainage challenges, depletion of infrastructural facilities and inadequate social amenities in order to make the town livable and more appealing”.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Engr. Abiola Kosegbe, said that the Development Guide Plan for Ketu-Ijanikin, a developing settlement in Oto-Awori District of Ojo Local Government Area, with an estimated land coverage of 70.841 hectares was awarded to Messrs. The representative of Urban Planning Smart Solutions Limited, Tpl. Ayodele Adediran urged the people of Ketu-Ijanikin to take advantage of the life-long opportunity and give their cooperation for timely delivery of the project.
The Onijanikin of Ijanikin Kingdom, Oba Momodu Afolabi Asafa, thanked the Lagos State Government for deeming it fit to prepare a plan that would enhance the development of the town, adding that the entire axis looked forward to more projects from the State.
