Baltimore’s early-season struggles worsened on Sunday when star quarterback Lamar Jackson limped off the field with a hamstring injury during their clash with the Kansas City Chiefs.
The setback came as the Ravens were already trailing 30-13 late in the third quarter at Arrowhead Stadium, leaving fans and head coach John Harbaugh visibly concerned.
Jackson’s Day Cut Short
Jackson, 28, had been having a solid game before the injury, completing 14 of 20 passes for 147 yards, with a touchdown and an interception.
He also contributed 48 rushing yards on six carries.
However, after pulling up in the final seconds of the third quarter, he was replaced by backup quarterback Cooper Rush and did not return for the fourth quarter.
The Ravens ultimately fell 37-20, marking their third loss of the season and dropping their record to 1-3.
Chiefs Quarterback Shines
Meanwhile, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs continued their hot streak, connecting on 25 of 37 passes for 270 yards and four touchdowns.
Mahomes also added four rushing yards on four carries, leading Kansas City to their second consecutive win following last week’s victory over the New York Giants.
Ravens Struggling With Multiple Injuries
The Ravens’ injury woes extended beyond Jackson.
Cornerback Marlon Humphrey and linebacker Roquan Smith both left the game in the first half with a calf and hamstring injury, respectively.
Baltimore was missing six defensive starters in total. Left tackle Ronnie Stanley also exited early with an ankle injury, further complicating Harbaugh’s game plan.
Earlier in the week, defensive linemen Nnamdi Madubuike and Broderick Washington were placed on injured reserve due to a neck and ankle injury.
Defensive tackle Travis Jones and linebacker Kyle Van Noy were inactive on Sunday due to a knee and hamstring issue, while cornerback Jaire Alexander remained sidelined with a persistent knee problem.
Harbaugh Acknowledges Concerns
Harbaugh had previously voiced concern about Madubuike’s injury but was not cleared to speak publicly about it.
Madubuike, a two-time Pro Bowler and consistent starter over the last two seasons, represents a key loss for Baltimore’s defensive front.
Looking Ahead for the Ravens
With their quarterback and several key defensive players sidelined, the Ravens face an uphill battle to turn around a season that has already been defined by injuries and disappointing losses.
Harbaugh and his squad now must regroup and find solutions if they hope to bounce back in the coming games.
