Lagos state inaugurates a Technical Committee towards Kosofe Sub-Region Master Plan

The Lagos State Government has inaugurated a Technical Committee to liaise with Consultants towards preparing the Kosofe Sub-Region Master Plan.

Speaking during the inauguration of the Technical Committee in Alausa on Wednesday, the Honourable Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako, stated that the committee, whose membership was drawn from different Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), would be expected to guide the consultants on all issues relating to physical planning and development policies and programmes.

He noted that the project was envisioned to provide a comprehensive development policy for the Sub-Region over the next 20 years, while focusing on sustainable inclusive environment, with an envisaged multiplier effect across economic, social and cultural spheres of the area.

Maintaining that all the assembled MDAs have one role or the other to play in achieving the lofty objective, Salako described the inauguration of the technical team as a

pathfinder for the overall development of Kosofe Sub-Region.

He added that the Sub-Region Master Plan became necessary in view of the rapid development in Kosofe and the attendant imperatives of ensuring orderliness in the Sub-Region, which had an estimated coverage area of 81 sq.km comprising of three important LGA/LCDAs, namely Kosofe LGA, Agboyi-Ketu and Ikosi-Isheri LCDAs.

He said

As a result, this project has been well-thought-out to address the many developmental challenges confronting the Sub-region.

The Commissioner stated that the engagement of consultants to prepare the Model City Plan was followed by consultations with various stakeholders, which informed the need to address identified constraints such as haphazard development, perennial flooding, shanties and unappealing waterfronts, poor inter-connectivity lying across the area, inadequate infrastructure and uncoordinated facilities.

Noting that the overall objective of the plan is to ensure development that is in tandem with the T.H.E.M.E.S. Agenda of achieving a 21st century Lagos Economy, Salako urged members of the Technical Committee to cooperate on the preparation, implementation, monitoring and compliance for the project.
