The Lagos State Government has announced the 11-day program for the inauguration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, for their second term in office.
The programs will be held in various locations across the state, including the five divisions of Lagos: Ikorodu, Badagry, Ikeja, Lagos Island, and Epe.
These events aim to celebrate the accomplishments of Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat during their first term and emphasize their commitment to achieving a greater Lagos.
Programs Unveiled by Commissioner for Information and Strategy
Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy of Lagos State, unveiled the program during a press conference held at Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre in Alausa, Ikeja.
The 11-day events will take place from May 21 to June 4.
Omotoso highlighted the administration’s achievements, including the delivery of impactful projects, social investments, and economic development, which have contributed to making Lagos a better place.
Inauguration and Project Commissioning
The inauguration day is scheduled for May 29, and post-inauguration Jummat and Church services will be held simultaneously in the five divisions of the state on June 2 and June 4, respectively.
Additionally, projects will be commissioned in eight local government areas over three consecutive days from May 24 to May 26.
These areas include Ajeromi/Ifelodun, Alimosho, Ikeja, Kosofe, Eti-Osa, Lagos Island, Lagos Mainland, and Surulere.
Other Events and Activities
On the first day, a Youth Carnival and Robotic competition involving People Living with Disabilities will be held simultaneously in all five divisions of Lagos.
A public lecture titled “The Making of a Beacon: Lagos and the Consolidation of a Democracy that works for all” will be delivered by Prof Adigun Agbaje on the second day (May 23).
The second day will also feature a book launch, a photo exhibition, and a stage drama performance at the Muson Centre in Onikan, Lagos.
Children’s Day activities will take place at the Police College in Ikeja, and a novelty match will be played simultaneously in all five divisions on May 27.
Pre-inauguration rehearsals are scheduled for May 28.
On day 10, a cultural display will be held at Mobolaji Johnson Sports Arena in Onikan, and an inauguration dinner will take place at Eko Hotels and Suites in Victoria Island.
Appreciation of Achievements and Call for Support
Omotoso emphasized the achievements of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration over the past four years, including the completion of numerous projects and the implementation of bold policies.
He highlighted the completion of 970 roads, 15 bridges, 18 housing projects, and the establishment of two universities.
He also mentioned the administration’s commitment to technology, entertainment, arts, and the preservation of Lagos’ historical and cultural heritage.
The Publicity Secretary of the Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Seye Oladejo, expressed pride in the Sanwo-Olu government’s accomplishments and urged residents to continue supporting the APC government in Lagos.
The programs for the inauguration of Governor Sanwo-Olu and his deputy reflect a celebration of their achievements and a renewed commitment to improving the lives of the people in Lagos State.
