Lagos Govt. To Partner With Nigeria Institute Of Builders To Monitor Construction Standards

As part of measures to checkmate the use of substandard materials for construction, the Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory (LSMTL), has expressed readiness to partner with the Nigerian Institute of Builders, on improving the built sector.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by representatives of the Nigerian Institute of Builders (NIOB) to the Agency’s Headquarters in Ojodu, the General Manager of LSMTL, Engr. Olufunsho Elulade, thanked the Executive members for the visit, assuring them of the Agency’s commitment to strategise and work with the body.

He reiterated that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had declared zero-tolerance for building collapse in the State, hence the need to collaborate with all stakeholders and capture the details of everyone involved in the production of construction materials in Lagos through the creation of a database.

While noting that synergy between NIOB and LSMTL is very crucial at this stage as well as a welcome development, the General Manager urged builders to support the State government in its determination to eradicate substandard construction materials that have flooded the market.

According to him, an appropriate communication channel would be opened, where members of the public will serve as informants, through whistleblowing, and alert the agency on the existence of substandard structural construction and defective buildings, so that the Agency can intervene to save the lives and property of innocent Lagosians.
