… Engages WAEC Officials in Interactive Session with Principals, Teachers
As a follow up to the recent recognition accorded some teachers whose students excelled during the last West African Examinations Council, WAEC, in Education District I, the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary of the District, Barrister (Mrs.) Titilayo Solarin has engaged some officials of WAEC to train Principals and Teachers of the District for improved performance in the forthcoming Y2021 examinations.
Speaking during a three-day workshop organised by the District for Principals and SS3 Teachers over the weekend, the TG/PS said that the interactive session was informed by the need to commence early preparations that would aid improved performance in similar examinations in the future.
She stated that the teachers of the District will not be complacent by the exemplary results of their students at the last WAEC, saying that the need to exceed the present status quo necessitated the training initiative.
Mrs. Solarin, who was represented at the event by the Director of ICT in the District, Mr. Adejare Afolabi, explained that the participants would be guided on the marking schemes, expectations of examiners as well as some common errors that should be avoided by students during examinations.
Expressing the belief that with the exposure from the external examiners, there would be an improvement in the performance of students and teachers going forward, Solarin said, “The benefits of a training like this is that you will be exposed to some past questions, understand the dynamics of WAEC questions, the appropriate ways in which the students should answer questions, likely areas of focus to avoid common errors, among other useful tips”.
The training session, which was in different segments, covered all major subjects and was attended by stakeholders in the education sector including the Chairman All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPPS) Chairman, Agege Zone, Mr. Kolawole Sofolahan; the ANCOPPS Chairman of Alimosho zone, Mr. Yemi Ojedokun and the Deputy Director, ICT, Education District 1, Mr. Charles Ajibola, among others.
