Residents across KwaZulu-Natal started their day under cloudy skies, with the promise of some light showers, particularly along the coast.
Durban and Richards Bay face about a 30% chance of rain, with daytime highs hovering around a comfortable 20°C.
Forecaster Mpho Rasimphi explained why the clouds are gathering: “The onshore flow is bringing moisture from the ocean into the province, causing a 30% chance of showers in coastal areas.”
After several dry weeks, this light rain comes as a welcome change for many.
Cooler Conditions Inland
Inland towns are feeling noticeably cooler. Pietermaritzburg is expected to reach a maximum of just 17°C, while surrounding areas stay even cooler.
The combination of ocean-driven moisture and overcast skies is limiting sunshine, keeping temperatures down.
Rasimphi noted: “Temperatures remain cool as you move inland, with Pietermaritzburg peaking at 17°C today.”
Those planning to venture inland are advised to dress in layers to stay comfortable throughout the day.
Mixed Weather Across the Province
While the coast enjoys some rainfall and the inland stays cool, northern KwaZulu-Natal is experiencing slightly warmer conditions.
Still, when compared to provinces like Gauteng and Limpopo, KZN is generally on the cooler side today.
Residents should prepare for wet conditions along the coast, with light showers potentially continuing into the evening before clearing overnight. It’s the perfect day for a warm beverage and a cozy outfit if you’re heading inland.
