The Spears-Federline family drama is back in the spotlight — and this time, it’s hitting close to home.
Britney Spears’ 19-year-old son, Jayden James Federline, was seen out and about in California just as shocking claims from his father Kevin Federline’s upcoming memoir began making headlines.
Jayden Steps Out in Calabasas as Claims Surface
On Tuesday, Jayden was spotted leaving the trendy Erewhon grocery store in Calabasas with his girlfriend by his side.
Dressed casually in a white T-shirt, gray jeans, and white sneakers, he looked relaxed despite the media storm surrounding his family.
His girlfriend, whose name hasn’t been made public, kept things low-key in a black hoodie, pale pink cargo pants, and light-brown shoes.
The pair were seen carrying Erewhon’s famously expensive smoothies — a celebrity favorite — as they wrapped up their shopping trip.
The outing came just hours after excerpts from Federline’s new book You Thought You Knew were published by The New York Times, containing disturbing allegations about Britney’s past behavior.
Kevin Federline’s Alarming Claims About Britney
In his memoir, Federline alleges that their sons — Jayden and his older brother Sean Preston, now 20 — once woke up to see Britney standing in their doorway, silently watching them while holding a knife.
“They would awaken sometimes at night to find her standing silently in the doorway, watching them sleep — ‘Oh, you’re awake?’ — with a knife in her hand,” he wrote.
“Then she’d turn around and pad off without explanation.”
Federline also claims the boys became fearful of visiting their mother during their teenage years, saying they “no longer wanted to go to her house.”
The Wedding Night Confession
As if that wasn’t enough, Federline dropped another bombshell during an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
He revealed that Britney allegedly had a tearful phone call with her ex-boyfriend, Justin Timberlake, the night before their wedding in 2004.
“I was stunned,” he recalled. “I thought I’d misheard her.
I told her, ‘We don’t have to do this,’” referring to their upcoming nuptials. “I didn’t care if we got married or not.”
Britney’s Team Fires Back
Following the release of these excerpts, Britney’s representatives fired back with a strong statement to Us Weekly, accusing Federline of profiting off her once again.
“Once again, [Kevin] and others are profiting off her,” the statement read.
“All she cares about are her kids, Sean Preston and Jayden James, and their well-being during this sensationalism.”
Federline Reflects on Britney’s Mental Health Struggles
Federline’s memoir also revisits Britney’s mental health crisis in 2008, when she was placed on a 5150 psychiatric hold at UCLA Medical Center after refusing to hand over custody of her sons.
He described it as “one of the hardest nights of my life.”
“I felt sick over what she was going through,” he wrote.
“This was someone I loved — the mother of my children.”
That moment marked the beginning of Britney’s 13-year conservatorship, which ended in 2021 following the viral #FreeBritney movement.
But Federline now says that movement may have done more harm than good.
From “Free Britney” to “Save Britney”?
While Federline acknowledges that fans’ intentions came “from a good place,” he believes the movement scared away professionals who could have helped Britney.
“All those people who put so much effort into that,” he wrote, “should now put the same energy into the ‘Save Britney’ movement.
Because this is no longer about freedom. It’s about survival.”
He admitted to The New York Times that he hasn’t spoken to Britney about what he wrote but insists, “I’ve never been against Britney.
I’ve only tried to help my sons have an incredible relationship with their mother.”
Britney’s Side of the Story
In her own memoir, Britney painted a very different picture.
She denied ever having a drinking or drug problem, though she admitted to taking Adderall for ADHD.
She also described suffering from postpartum depression during her split from Federline.
“Kevin tried to convince everyone that I was completely out of control,” she wrote.
“He started saying I shouldn’t have my kids anymore — at all.”
The Daily Mail reached out to Britney’s representatives for comment on the latest allegations, but they declined to respond.
Echoes of Jamie Lynn’s Claims
Federline’s knife claim mirrors one made by Britney’s younger sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, in her 2022 memoir Things I Should Have Said.
Jamie Lynn claimed Britney once locked them in a room together while holding a knife — an allegation Britney dismissed as “crazy lies.”
A Marriage That Burned Fast and Bright
Britney and Kevin married in 2004 after a whirlwind romance and had two sons together.
But their relationship unraveled quickly — Federline filed for divorce in 2006, and he was later granted full custody of the boys following Britney’s 2008 hospitalization.
The pop star’s relationship with her sons has been strained in recent years.
The boys moved to Hawaii with their father in August 2023, though sources say they did surprise Britney with a Christmas visit and that she’s recently grown closer to Jayden.
Federline’s Memoir Promises “Intimate and Transparent” Details
Set for release on October 21, Federline describes You Thought You Knew as a deeply personal look at his life with Britney and the challenges of fatherhood.
“I achieved my biggest dreams, dealt with crushing heartbreak, and endured constant ridicule,” he said.
“All while becoming the father my children needed through non-stop emotional turbulence.”
But not everyone is impressed. Britney’s most recent ex-husband, Sam Asghari, took a swipe at Federline’s new project, telling TMZ, “He was a professional father — so it’ll be the first book on how to be one.”
