31st of January, 2022 – Atheists in Kenya’s culture have backed remarks made by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s wife, Ida Odinga, who called for church regulation.
Ida Odinga, speaking in Kisumu on Sunday, encouraged the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) to close churches led by untrained theologians.
Ida mentioned that many little churches have sprung up in recent years, but that they are ineffective because their leaders have not been properly trained.
Ida’s remarks have sparked protest in the religious arena but Atheist in Kenya society president, Harisson Mumia, said his members support Ida Odinga’s call to regulate churches.
Mumia said churches in Kenya have been commercialized and NCCK should regulate them by banning those who fail to comply with NCCK guidelines.
The Atheists boss also urged Ida Odinga not to apologise to anybody for stating the truth.
Here is the statement signed by Atheists President, Harrison Mumia congratulating Mama Ida Odinga for calling for the ban of small churches.
