American Idol star Kellie Pickler’s singer-songwriter husband has shot himself dead at their home in Nashville, the day after writing an Instagram post celebrating a new musical milestone.

Kyle Jacobs, 49, was found on Friday inside a locked upstairs bedroom and office. His wife of 12 years was at home at the time and, unable to find him, called 911.

The day before his death, he was celebrating a record he worked on – Lee Brice’s album Hey World – going platinum.

Jacobs was a producer on the record, in addition to playing acoustic guitar and providing backing vocals.

In his final Instagram post, he wrote: ‘Platinum?! SWEEEET!!! An amazing crew of incredibly talented peeps put this one together…Deeply honored to be a creative part of it…Thank you Jesus!!!’

Jacobs took his life just as he seemed to have it all going for him.

He also posted this month about a business venture: a new app called SingerSongwriterMusician.

‘Calling all Singers, Songwriters and Musicians!!! Do you need great ‘Appenue’ (App+Avenue=Appenue) for the WORLD to hear the MUSIC that God put into your HEART? Or need a network to set up gigs, find performance venues, new band members or even just jam-buddies? Then check out the SingerSongwriterMusician App…It’s AMAZING!!!’ he wrote.

His friends and fans were full of ideas for him too.

David Allen replied on his platinum post, the same day he passed: ‘Congrats, my brother! Big bass will be on the spawn beds at my lake in about 2 or 3 weeks. Grab your gear and let’s get in the truck.’

A fan wrote to him on the post: ‘Hey have you ever thought of writing a gospel song? I bet it would be awesome with your faith and words of experience over the years put to paper as to what he has blessed you with like how he gave you Kellie and your love story.’

Another replied: ‘He passed away today’.

Police responded to the call at 1.21pm local time on Friday.

‘Officers and Nashville Fire Department personnel responded and located resident Kyle Jacobs, 49, deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in an upstairs bedroom/office,’ Nashville police said in a statement.

‘His death is being investigated as an apparent suicide.’

Spokesman Don Aaron said all others at the home were safe.

Pickler, 36, gained fame as a contestant on the fifth season of American Idol, in 2006, and finished in sixth place. In 2006, she signed to 19 Recordings and BNA Records as a recording artist.

Her hit songs include Don’t You Know You’re Beautiful and Best Days of Your Life, co-written with Taylor Swift.

She married Jacobs on January 1, 2011.

Jacobs had an Alaska hunting and fishing license registered to the property from May 2021.

‘We are investigating at present an apparent suicide at a home on Sneed road,’ said the police spokesman, Don Aaron.

He told ‘The call came in at 1.21pm.

‘Sneed Road is located within our police department’s West precinct, so West Precinct officers responded, as did the Nashville Fire Department to that initial call.

‘Since that time, a detective team has responded.

‘The apparent suicide is of a male, an adult.’

The Nashville Police spokesman added that the Medical Examiner’s Office later attended, and said that was normal for incidents involving a death.

The house on Sneed Road in a suburb south of Nashville city center has four bedrooms and one and a half bathrooms according to a Zillow listing.

It was last purchased in 2010 for $1.4million and is now worth an estimated $2.4million.

The purchase was by Julie Boos, owner of Tennessee music management company FBMM and Pickler’s manager.
