In a dramatic turn of events, Kate Bowman, the wife of former Maroon 5 bassist Mickey Madden, has officially filed for divorce just three months after their wedding.
The news comes amid serious allegations of abuse and inappropriate behavior against Madden, shaking the music world and social media alike.
Divorce Cited as Irreconcilable Differences
Bowman submitted divorce papers on Wednesday, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split.
While no formal date of separation was provided, she is requesting spousal support and has asked the court to prevent Madden, 46, from receiving any.
The couple has no children, which means there are no custody or child support issues involved.
It remains unclear whether they had a prenup in place.
Allegations of Abuse Surface
Just two weeks prior to filing for divorce, Bowman accused Madden of physically attacking her after confronting him about allegedly sending inappropriate messages to teenagers.
In her court filing, she described the terrifying events of July 21, saying, “He physically abused me. I’m now terrified of him.”
Bowman claims Madden became enraged after she asked about the alleged messages, which reportedly involved a rape fantasy.
The Frightening Encounter
According to Bowman, Madden grabbed her arms and slammed her against a kitchen counter.
She recounted, “He pulled me to the ground and was out of his mind.”
She managed to escape, only for Madden to chase her in his underwear, shove her against a gate, and attempt to drag her back into the house.
Bowman says she fled to the street, but Madden allegedly found her twice more in different locations, continuing the physical abuse.
Evidence and Legal Action
Bowman submitted screengrabs from Ring camera footage to support her claims.
She said she retrieved Madden’s phone while hiding between cars and discovered evidence of the alleged misconduct.
Bowman also noted that Madden had never shown this level of aggression prior to their marriage, adding that she learned about the text-related allegations from a stranger.
Protecting Herself
In response to the abuse, Bowman moved out of the home and is staying with a friend.
She requested a restraining order to prevent Madden from coming within 100 yards of her, her workplace, residence, or vehicle.
She also asked the court for spousal support and financial expenses, as well as custody of their two Siberian Huskies, Jam and Toast.
A temporary restraining order has been granted, but Madden was not required to vacate their home pending a future hearing.
Mickey Madden’s Background
Madden, who played bass for Maroon 5 for nearly 26 years, stepped away from the band in 2020 following an arrest related to domestic violence.
At the time, he stated, “I have some things that I need to deal with and address right now and so I have decided to take a leave of absence.
During this time, I do not want to be a distraction to my bandmates. I wish them the absolute best.”
Moving Forward
Bowman has begun working and is preparing to move into her own apartment.
She expressed concern that Madden may attempt to track her down at work, highlighting her need for security and independence.
This case continues to unfold in Los Angeles Superior Court as Bowman seeks legal protection and closure from her brief but tumultuous marriage.
