Karim Kimvuidi, a talented attacking midfielder for Orlando Pirates, is starting to attract attention from some of the biggest clubs in African football.
Despite being just 22 years old, the dynamic playmaker has only made 28 appearances for the Pirates since joining in 2023.
His limited playing time seems to be causing some concern, with top clubs such as Al-Hilal, Simba, and Egypt’s Pyramids FC reportedly keen on securing his services.
Is Orlando Pirates overlooking something in Kimvuidi’s potential?
Mamelodi Sundowns’ New Coach Shares Vision for the Team
Mamelodi Sundowns’ new head coach, Miguel Cardoso, is ready to leave his mark on the Premier Soccer League (PSL) as he takes charge of the club.
He wasted no time in outlining his approach, emphasizing the importance of having technically gifted players in his squad.
“The players we have are technically well developed,” Cardoso stated, adding that they are suited to the style of play he aims to implement.
Cardoso believes that a coach’s ability to impose their philosophy depends on the quality of players at their disposal.
“If the quality isn’t there, it’s hard to impose the game you want,” he explained.
He’s confident that Sundowns’ players have the technical abilities needed to execute his vision.
Controlling the Game: Cardoso’s Tactical Focus
A key element of Cardoso’s strategy is controlling the game, which involves understanding all the moments of play.
“Controlling the games means the team must be solid in the four moments of the game,” he said.
This approach involves not only mastering what to do with the ball but also understanding how to use the ball to move opponents around and exploit spaces.
For Sundowns to succeed, Cardoso believes they need to be proactive in recognizing and creating spaces on the field.
“When teams play against Sundowns, we really need to understand this question of the spaces—where they are and how we can utilize them,” he explained.
This spatial awareness is essential for unlocking attacking opportunities.
The Importance of Aggression in Transitions
Cardoso also stressed the importance of aggression when transitioning from defense to attack, particularly in moments when the ball is lost.
“You need to be strong in the moment you lose the ball,” he said, emphasizing that recovering possession quickly is vital.
Rather than retreating and reorganizing, he prefers players to make a quick, energetic effort to win the ball back within three to four seconds.
This aggressive approach to regaining possession, rather than waiting for the defense to reset, is central to his vision of a more fluid and dominant team.
With these ideas in mind, it’s clear that Cardoso has a clear, structured plan for Sundowns moving forward.
