Kaizer Chiefs struggle to secure marquee signing in Johannesburg as Orlando Pirates continue to dominate transfer market

While Orlando Pirates keep making waves with one impressive signing after another this transfer season, things have been noticeably quiet over at Kaizer Chiefs.

With no major new signings announced yet, AmaKhosi supporters are starting to feel a little restless—and it’s easy to see why.

Big Names Were Eyed, But the Price Was Too High

Chiefs had their eyes on some big African talents this offseason, including Michael Olunga and Fiston Mayele.

But as exciting as those prospects were, the price tags were just too steep.

It seems both deals fizzled out before they could even gather momentum.

That said, the club is still exploring other options to bolster their attack.

New Faces and Young Blood in the Mix

Despite missing out on those big names, the club has already brought in Flavio Silva, a striker who fans will be watching closely.

In addition, Chiefs have promoted Naledi Hlongwane from their youth ranks, showing some faith in homegrown talent.

There’s also interest in players like Etiosa Ighodaro, indicating the search for firepower up front is far from over.

Sources close to the club say the plan has always been to bring in two more experienced strikers.

With Silva already signed, management is now pushing to secure one more proven goal-scorer to complete the attacking puzzle.

Jessica Motaung Gives a Glimpse Into the Club’s Strategy

Speaking from the club’s base, Jessica Motaung gave an update on the team’s preparation and ongoing transfer activities.

While she didn’t drop any major names, she did confirm that work is very much underway behind the scenes.

“It’s great to see the players return with good fitness and focus,” she shared.

“We’re working hard on our intakes for the new season.

The technical and sporting teams are busy scouting and selecting the right kind of players.”

Transfers Are Coming—Just Not All at Once

Motaung also reminded fans that the transfer window is still open, so there’s no rush to announce every deal right away.

Some signings might only be unveiled closer to the Toyota Cup or in other pre-season events.

In other words, patience might pay off.

“There’s no final list right now,” she said. “We’re still actively looking.

The goal is to get the right players who align with our vision—to reclaim our position both locally and on the African stage.”

Fans Still Hope for a Game-Changer

With the club’s intentions clear but announcements still pending, all eyes are now on Kaizer Chiefs to see who they bring in next.

The big question remains: Will they land a true marquee signing before the window closes?
