Kaizer Chiefs secure two former Mamelodi Sundowns stars in Johannesburg as Orlando Pirates land Sipho Mbule in Mayfair

The transfer window has been buzzing, and few clubs have made as much noise as Mamelodi Sundowns.

The reigning giants have let go of a huge number of players, sparking quick reactions from their biggest rivals.

Both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates wasted no time in swooping in to sign some of the released talent.

Chiefs Waste No Time Strengthening Their Squad

Kaizer Chiefs have been especially busy. They managed to grab not one, but two of Sundowns’ former stars.

First through the door was striker Etiosa Ighodara, followed by versatile midfielder Lebohang Maboe.

These two join fellow ex-Sundowns attacker Gaston Sirino, meaning Chiefs are slowly building a group of familiar faces from Masandawana.

For Amakhosi, this is more than just filling gaps—it’s about bringing in proven PSL experience to give them a competitive edge.

Pirates Secure Mbule as Their First Signing

Orlando Pirates also moved smartly in the market, capturing midfielder Sipho Mbule earlier in the window.

The 27-year-old has already won over the Buccaneers’ faithful, quickly becoming a fan-favourite.

His partnership with Sihle Ndudli, who arrived from Stellenbosch FC, has given Pirates’ midfield a fresh and exciting look.

At this stage, Mbule remains the only player from Sundowns that the Bucs have managed to bring in, but his impact is already being felt.

Sundowns Release a Full Squad of Players

In total, Sundowns confirmed the exit of 12 players—a clear sign of a major reshuffle.

The list includes Rivaldo Coetzee, Sipho Mbule (now with Pirates), Lucas Suarez, Lebohang Maboe (now with Chiefs), Sifiso Ngobeni, Thabang Sibanyoni, Sanele Tshabalala, Kobamelo Kodisang (AVS Futebol SAD), Rushine De Reuck (Simba SC), Thembinkosi Lorch (Wydad Casablanca), Matias Esquivel (AE Kifisia) and Neo Maema.

Most of these stars have already secured new clubs, but some big names remain unattached.

Coetzee, Suarez, Ngobeni, Sibanyoni, Tshabalala, and Maema are still free agents.

Chiefs Keep an Eye on Maema

One name that stands out is Neo Maema. Despite being released, his future could still involve one of Sundowns’ rivals.

Reports suggest Kaizer Chiefs are monitoring the situation closely, and considering he’s valued at around R24 million, the move could become one of the most eye-catching transfers of the window if it materialises.

What Comes Next?

With Sundowns’ overhaul leaving several quality players available, the big question is whether Chiefs or Pirates will return for more reinforcements.

Fans are already speculating about who could be next to switch sides.

So, the window may have delivered some shocks already, but it looks like the drama isn’t over yet.
