Kaizer Chiefs may be looking to shake up their goalkeeping department.
Reports suggest that the South African giants have shown interest in Mohamed Camara, the talented goalkeeper from Asante Kotoko and Guinea.
Currently, Chiefs have four goalkeepers on their books, three of whom are South African, raising questions about whether they really need another shot-stopper.
Current Goalkeeping Line-Up
Brandon Petersen is Chiefs’ No.1, while Fiacre Ntwari from Rwanda is the club’s second choice.
Bruce Bvuma and Bontle Molefe round out the third and fourth spots in the pecking order.
Camara revealed that Chiefs approached him after their Toyota Cup game in Durban, but he referred them to his current club, Asante Kotoko, where he is still contracted for another season.
It remains unclear if Chiefs have formally contacted the Ghanaian side for his transfer.
Foreign Quota Challenges
If Chiefs decide to sign Camara, they’ll face a foreign player quota issue.
At present, the club has already reached its limit, with five foreign internationals on the roster: Ntwari, Inacio Miguel (Angola), Flavio Silva (Guinea-Bissau), Etiosa Ighodaro (Nigeria), and Glody Lilepo (DR Congo).
To accommodate Camara, Chiefs would need to offload one of their current foreign players.
Ntwari, who has conceded 11 goals in seven games and is no longer starting, seems like the likely candidate.
Signing Camara would signal a major overhaul in the goalkeeping department and address the foreign quota problem at the same time.
What Could This Mean for Chiefs?
Bringing in Camara would show Chiefs’ intent to strengthen their squad, particularly in goal.
It would also indicate a lack of faith in Ntwari’s performances so far.
Fans are left wondering: will Chiefs make the necessary moves to secure Camara, and how will this reshuffle affect the current team dynamics?
