As the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season kicks off this weekend, Kaizer Chiefs are gearing up for a strong start.

Their first challenge is an away game at Athlone Stadium against Stellenbosch FC on Sunday — a matchup that promises to test the defending Nedbank Cup champions right out of the gate.

Nkosingiphile Ngcobo Shares Team’s Positive Outlook

Midfielder Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, affectionately called “Mshini,” is buzzing with optimism ahead of the new campaign.

Having been born in Pietermaritzburg and honed his skills both locally and abroad, Ngcobo feels the team is focused and ready to build on last season’s success.

“We’re energized and confident, but not overly excited,” Ngcobo told the club’s official website.

“Our goal is to find a steady rhythm that carries us through the entire season.”

Building Momentum After a Winning Season and European Pre-Season

The Chiefs enter this season fresh off their Nedbank Cup triumph and with the added incentive of competing in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Their pre-season training in the Netherlands also sharpened their skills and teamwork, raising expectations for what lies ahead.

“We’re inspired by what we’ve achieved,” Ngcobo said. “Now, it’s about maintaining that level and giving our all in every competition we enter.”

Tough Challenge Awaits Against Stellenbosch FC

Looking ahead to Sunday’s fixture, Ngcobo acknowledged the difficulty of playing Stellenbosch on their home turf.

“Stellenbosch is always a tough opponent, no matter where we face them,” he said.

“But we know their game well, and we have a clear plan. We’re ready to give everything to come away with the win.”
