Kaizer Chiefs Maintain Perfect Defensive Record with Petersen and Monyane Leading the Backline in South African Premiership

Kaizer Chiefs have been making waves in the Betway Premiership this season, not just for their attacking flair but for their ironclad defence.

The team has yet to concede a goal in four matches, maintaining a perfect record of clean sheets.

This remarkable streak has seen them climb to second place on the league table, and much of the credit goes to a couple of standout performers at the back.

Petersen and Monyane Lead from the Back

Goalkeeper Brandon Petersen and fullback Thabiso Monyane have been at the heart of Chiefs’ defensive solidity.

Both players have started every match this season, proving indispensable in keeping opponents at bay.

Petersen’s commanding presence between the posts and Monyane’s tireless runs down the flank have been crucial in Amakhosi’s early-season success.

Hugo Broos Praises Petersen’s Progress

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has taken notice of Petersen’s impressive form and hinted at the possibility of a national team call-up in the future.

Broos spoke about the goalkeeper’s growth compared to last season, highlighting that the country now has several options to choose from but that Petersen has clearly made significant strides.

“There was a time when we had to search for a good goalkeeper.

Now we see Petersen making a big jump compared to the previous season.

He’s performing well with Kaizer Chiefs and deserves recognition, but at the moment, I can only select three goalkeepers for the national squad.

He’ll have to wait for his opportunity,” Broos explained.

Monyane on the Rise Again

Broos also commented on Thabiso Monyane, who has been gradually regaining the form that once had him on the national radar.

The Belgian coach noted that Monyane had struggled for game time at Orlando Pirates but is now showing promising performances with Kaizer Chiefs.

“He was on our radar a year ago and even played a friendly for us.

After a period without regular games at Pirates, he’s coming back strong at Chiefs.

If he continues this form over the next few weeks, he could be considered for the qualifiers in October,” Broos said.
