For Kaizer Chiefs fans, the buzz of new signings is always exciting — but club legend Itumeleng Khune wants supporters to remember that success doesn’t happen overnight.
Speaking on SABC1, the former goalkeeper stressed that while the fresh faces bring promise, they also need patience from the crowd to truly settle in and make their mark.
A Fresh Batch of Talent
The team has welcomed a range of new players across different positions:
-
Nkanyiso Shinga – 25, left-back
-
Ethan Chislett – 26, attacking midfielder
-
Flavio Silva – 29, striker
-
Paseka Mako – 31, left-back
-
Thabiso Monyane – 25, right-back
-
Siphesihle Ndlovu – 28, central midfielder
Khune believes each of them can bring something unique to the squad — but only if they’re given the space and time to adjust to the team’s rhythm.
Winning Mentality Meets Fresh Promise
Highlighting Monyane and Mako, Khune pointed out that both arrive with valuable experience from their time at Orlando Pirates, carrying a “winning mentality” that could benefit Chiefs on and off the pitch.
He also expressed his admiration for the energy and talent shown by Shinga and Chislett in early appearances.
As for Silva, Khune was clear — it’s too soon to judge. The striker, he says, deserves a fair run of games before fans can truly decide what he brings to South African football.
A Call for Patience and Support
Khune’s main message was simple — integration takes time. He reminded supporters that new players need to understand the team’s style, bond with their teammates, and adapt to the pressure of representing such a massive club.
“We’ve only debated Silva based on the first few games, but he’s definitely going to show us what he can do,” Khune concluded, calling on fans to stay behind the squad through the growing pains.
